The junior captain who fell in love with the game as a toddler is always looking for ways to get himself and his team going. Cameron is currently averaging 18 PPG. Cam has come a long way since he suited up as a freshman for the Braves when all 30 points he scored came from the 3-point line.
Before the Chism’s moved from Seattle to Utah. Cameron was courtside watching players like Ray Allen and Kevin Durant. Cameron and his family moved to Bountiful when he was in 7th grade. Cameron must’ve learned something from watching those two because he is shooting the ball very well and he continues to get better.
Cameron believes that his team is a legit 5A state contender and we couldn’t agree more. Cam and his coach both know it all starts in practice. “I am team captain this year so he asks me and the fellow captains to focus on being leaders. He has put a huge emphasis this year on us making sure we have energy in every single practice because you play how you practice”.
This past AAU season Cam suited up for Utah Mountain Stars were he was able to refine his defense and work on his ability to get to the basket. Cam is looking to expand his game and puts in a lot of work. He has a much improved mid-range game. He is also getting to the basket more often as well.
Cameron doesn’t only focus on the basketball court. He holds a 3.9 GPA and currently has a 25 ACT. Cam plans on taking it again in February.
Cam believes in his teammates and they believe in him. They have such a balanced team with talent that leads to Cameron getting great looks at the basket.
The Bountiful Braves have played one of the toughest pre-season schedules thus far. They hold a 6-2 record with losses to 6A American Fork and Davis. The Braves will travel to Southern California for The Classic at Damien as they open up against Pasadena High School. The Bulldogs have a rich basketball tradition and they will be a tough 1st round opponent as they will be quick, athletic and have length.
Cameron looks forward to the challenge, but also looks forward to bonding with his teammates during their holiday tournament. Cam will also work on beating the teams best shooter in Fortnite Robert Whaley.
Cam currently posses a game that would translate to the D2, NAIA level. He could also be a NJUCO type player that could turn into a killer shooter. Wouldn’t be surprised if his work ethic takes him even further.
Good luck the rest of the way to Cameron and his teammate.
