Continue ReadingThe winner of the player of the week voting for week 2 of the high school season is Lucas Kroft of Richmond. Kroft received 6,368 votes on the poll, good for 64.23% of the total vote. He scored 34 points against North Central (Indianapolis) on Friday night and then added in 26 points the next day against East Central. Kroft is currently committed to play college basketball at Ball State.
Kroft expresses that his season is going well at Richmond after transferring in from Fort Wayne North prior to the start of this season. Because he is such a dynamic player, Kroft has been relied on to provide leadership to a team with a new philosophy and coach. “My three point shot isn’t where I want it to be,” Kroft said. “I’ve been working on it and getting it right. Overall I’ve been happy with the way I’ve been playing and leading the team.”
Kroft’s performances came in two losses, two games that by the end of the season they will likely win. Richmond is dealing with some key losses off of their team last year, a coaching change, and a host of transfers. This all creates a very fluid system where on one night they may look really good, but on others terrible. Richmond is going to be a strong team come tournament time. Through these struggles they are learning about themselves as a team. “We learned that we need to learn not to let our emotions change the way that we play,” Kroft said. “We all have our own roles that we need to fulfill and we need to get better defensively.”
Kroft’s play last week led to him being the Prep Hoops Indiana Player of the Week but he is going to continue to work on his game so that he can play at a very high level. “I have to make sure that I keep going as hard as I have been going, so that I can be a good example for everyone else to follow,” Kroft says.
