Some of these players may come back down to earth as the grind of the season hits but others could stand the test of time and be on track for historic seasons. Here’s a look at some of the most impressive performers on early in the season.
- Lexington Christian Senior Kyle Rode is off to a really impressive start. Committed to play his college ball at Liberty, Kyle is averaging 34.3 points and 12 rebounds per game through 4 games. More impressive is that Kyle is shooting 66% from the field, 69% from three (making 3 per game) and 79% from the free throw line. Equally important, LCA is 4-0 to start the year.
- Kentucky bound Senior Dontaie Allen of Pendleton County has the Wildcats off to a 3-1 start while playing all four games on the road. Allen is averaging 41 points per game to go along with 17 rebounds per game. He tied the event record for rebounds in a game with 23 at the Marshall County Hoopfest last weekend. Dontaie already has games of 52 and 53 points this season.
- Caldwell County Senior combo guard Derrin Boyd led the Tiger to a win on Tuesday night with a big 38 point and 10 rebound performance. Boyd is an athletic combo guard with a high ceiling.
- Mason County’s Senior guard Jaylen Lofton had a career high 32 points and a game high 12 rebounds on Tuesday night.
- Elliott County Senior Point Guard Korbin Spencer had an impressive 44 points Tuesday night in a win over Greenup County.
- Franklin County Senior Kyle Stivers had a 30 point and 14 rebound performance in a loss against Collins on Tuesday night.
- South Laurel’s Junior standout Matt Cromer is off to a hot start this year as he’s averaging 29 points and 8.6 rebounds per game to go along with 4 assists and shooting just shy of 50% from 3.
- Several players have joined the 1,000 career point club this season already. Trinity Senior and Louisville signee David Johnson, Scott’s Chad Ohmer, LaRue County’s Mark Goode Beechwood’s Scotty Draud.
- Speaking of Draud, the Sophomore is averaging nearly 32 points per game while leading his team to a 5-0 start to the season. He’s had 3 games of 30+ points this season.
In other news, Asbury University offered both Carter Baughman of Mercer County and Trey Meister of Scott High.
