The National Basketball Association remains an elusive dream for the thousands of youth basketball players across our great nation. Tennessee currently features a sprinkling of players with realistic ambitions of playing one day in the NBA.
While no omitted player should cease striving, these players are the most likely NBA participants in the coming decade.
Don’t put too much import into the numerical rankings below. Just know they all have a chance.
-
-
Keon Johnson – The most explosive athlete in Tennessee, Keon Johnson has a half dozen family members with college bball experience.
-
James Wiseman – Effervescent left-handed 7-footer with incredibly high ceiling. This year Wiseman incorporated three-point touch.
-
Randy Brady – The next big thing at Brentwood Academy, Randy Brady can add a little better defensive commitment to ensure he makes it.
-
Alden Applewhite – Missing much of 2018-2019 with Achille’s injury. Applewhite is a fluid lefty scorer with a high ceiling.
-
Samson Ruzhentsev – Just jaw-dropping hunger for the rim. Ruzhentsev displays none of the timidity of lesser wings.
-
Matthew Murrell – Good, not great mid-range player yet. Perfect size for his position.
-
Damion Baugh – Frighteningly fast at 6-foot-4. Athleticism is the limiting factor for most college players planning to go pro. Baugh has it.
-
Kennedy Chandler – Incomparable scoring versatility as a lead guard.
-
Johnathan Lawson – Startling handle. Lawson and his older brother Chandler boast top-5 basketball frames. Wingspans are absurd.
-
Ques Glover – An outsider who will claw his way further than any peer. Glover is explosive, courageous, and, confident.
-
Chandler Lawson – Wing in need of better lateral movement. Rebounds very well and blocks more shots than most wings.
-
Jordan Wilmore – You can’t teach size. Whitehaven starting center Wilmore is a 7-foot-1 center with a recent DI offer to prove he is developing.
-
Chandler Jackson – The youngest player on this list, Class of 2022 guard Chandler Jackson is already strong and capable of volume scoring.
-
Antavion Collum – Athleticism is special. His outside shot, shot selection, and handle can all improve. They need to.
