This first session is at Hargrave, with sessions to come at Fork Union and Massanutten as well this year. There were six teams competing, including the three above along with Mount Zion Prep (MD), Spire Institute Prep (OH), and the Andrew Osbourn International Sports Academy (ISA). Here’s a look at part two of the standouts from the first day.
Kris Gardner | 6’2” CG | Hargrave
The South Georgia native was one of the most surprising and impressive guards at the event, as he made a statement as the sixth man for the Cadets. At 6’2” he has a strong build, and he showed the ability to create for both himself and others off the bounce throughout the game. He can score from all three levels, he has a tight handle against pressure and he has a little dog in him defensively. He finished with 19 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Tyson Jackson | 6’9” PF | Hargrave
The Middle Tennessee State commit was phenomenal in the paint, as he provided energy, toughness and was productive throughout the game. He’s in much better shape than he was earlier in the season, and he showed that by getting up and down the floor and finishing above the rim. He was good in their press, he was efficient offensively and he attacked the glass on both ends. He finished with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds, finishing 7-for-9 from the field.
Jeremiah Davenport | 6’7” F | Hargrave
One of the best available seniors in the country, Davenport looked like every bit of a power six player that can play and guard both forward positions. If you want to go big he can step out on the perimeter where he shot it well and attacked off the rim, and while he’s only 6’7” if you want to go small he can guard in the post while creating a mismatch. He’s a strong kid and a freak athlete as he had a number of highlight finishes as well. He finished with 16 points and five rebounds, going 3-for-5 from deep.
Woody Newton | 6’7” WF | Mt. Zion 2020
One of the few juniors at the event, Newton looked every bit like a Top 100 kid moving forward. He has a great skill set on the perimeter at about 6’7”-6’8”, as he can catch and shoot from deep, get his own in transition and isolation situations and he finished well above the rim. He rebounded on both ends as well and showed he can be a versatile defender who guards wings but also protects the rim. He finished with 26 points, nine rebounds and two blocks.
Robert Carpenter | 6’7” PF | Mt. Zion
Carpenter had quite a bit of college coaches in attendance to see him, and he didn’t disappoint. He’s a big bodied four man who may be a little short but he rebounds like he’s 6’10” and he can step out and play in the 18 foot range. He has good touch with both hands, plays with a high motor and good toughness. The Michigan native finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds in their loss.
Jarren McAllister | 6’3” WG | Massanutten
McAllister had one of the best games of the day, finishing with 27 points in a Massnautten win over ISA. While Massanutten started slow, McAllister brought the energy early with one of the sickest posters I’ve seen all season. He showed great improvement in his jump shot, going 5-for-7 from deep, and he scored 22 of his 27 points in the first half before the Colonels started to blow them out. VCU fans would have been ecstatic to see him play the way he did last night.
Dereon Seabron | 6’6” G | Massanutten
While he hasn’t committed to them, I’ve had a lot of VCU fans hit me up on twitter about Seabron, and for good reason because these two look like a phenomenal backcourt. At 6’6”, he may be one of the biggest point guard prospects in America and one of the best left available. He has a tight handle, blow-by ability off the bounce, good length and athleticism and good feel for the game.He finished with 23 points, 16 in the second half, along with five assists and four rebounds.
