Here is a look at some of the top individual performers from Wednesday night:
Jayce Catchings 6’3″ Wentzville Liberty (’20) – The emerging junior guard scored a game-high 29 points in the Eagles’ victory over Whitfield. An established 3-point shooter, Catchings has mastered the mid-range game, which has made him a legit three-level scorer and the current top bucket-getter in the St. Louis area to the tune of 29 points a game. His body has developed, so he can also absorb contact to keep it moving. His stock is definitely on the rise.
Daylan Dalton 5’7″ Francis Howell (’19): The little quickster scored a team high 20 points in Howell’s victory over Parkway South. He was a blur in the open court as he scored on transition layups and floaters in the lane. He also did a nice job of dropping dimes all over the gym top open teammates in the lane or two open 3-point shooters.
Jaron Thames 6’5″ Trinity (’19) – The smooth wing scored 16 points and got the Titans off to a great start in their victory over St. Charles. He opened the game with a 3-pointer off the opening tip and also displayed a nice mid-range jumper and effective scoring in the transition game. He passes well and has a nice feel for the game.
Jayden Littlejohn 5’9″ Parkway Central (’19) – The diminutive guard scored 14 points in the victory over MICDS. His combination of strength and quickness caused all kinds of problems on both ends of the court. He finished well with strong takes to the basket and also picked a few pockets, which led to easy layups in the transition game. He has really stepped up his game to help the Colts to an 8-1 record. Had some nice escape moves off the dribble.
Mello Ball 5’9″ Parkway Central (’19) – Like his backcourt partner Littlejohn, Mello has also really stepped up his level of play with a bigger role this season. He is also quick and also tough on both ends of the court. He has smooth handles and did a nice job of creating shots in the lane or with short jumpers. He also scored 14 points in the victory over MICDS.
Adam Sommer 6’3″ Parkway South (’20) – The excellent combo guard was the Patriots big bright spot in the loss to a powerful Howell team with his shooting and overall play. He knocked down five 3-pointers and did a nice job getting buckets despite facing a swarm of different defenders. He is strong and handles the ball well and can shoot the 3 off the catch or off the dribble.
