McEachern Wins the 2018 City of Palms Classic
Fort Myers, FL – The McEachern Indians out of Powder Springs, Georgia are the 2018 City of Palms Classic Champions after their statement win over Imhotep Charter (PA) 68-47. McEachern has now become the second Georgia public school to take home the title since 2014 (Wheeler). They also become the second Cobb County School to bring home the title as well, the same county as Wheeler High School. McEachern went a perfect 4-0 at the City of Palms Classic and three out of those four games defeated their opponents by 20 or more points.
The Indians were led by their star point guard 2020 PG Sharife Cooper who finished with 20 points and 5 rebounds and who also received MVP honors. Auburn signee 2019 F Isaac Okoro and Northwestern signee 2019 F Jared Jones received all tournament team honors after their win last night. Sharife averaged 17.5 points per game in his time in Fort Myers. Guys like 2019 G Alyn Breed and 2019 PG Quinton McElroy played very well at the City of Palms and was a reason they are the champions today.
With this City of Palms title now in their possession, it is without question the number one team in the state of Georgia is McEachern right now. The Indians are an overall record 10-0 so far and their resume is on another level. Having already defeated great programs like Holy Spirit Prep, Wheeler, Imhotep Charter (PA), Mountain Brook (AL), Paul VI (VA), and Miami Christian (FL), the schedule only gets tougher. In the month of January McEachern is expected to face Findlay Prep (NV) and a rematch with Imhotep Charter (PA) again at the Cancer Research Classic in Wheeling, WV, compete in the Bass Pro Tournament of Champions in Missouri, and face Rancho Christian (CA) in the famous Hoophall Classic.
Sharife Cooper and Isaac Okoro are currently a combined record 65-4 overall together over the last three years. In all three seasons, McEachern has played a national schedule so they have not been ducking the competition. That is an amazing stat to only lose four games in the last three years and after all the competiton both have faced. McEachern’s next game will not be for two weeks as they will head to Wheeling, WV to compete in the Cancer Research Classic.
