Shamir Bogues / 6’2″ / SG / Killeen Ellison / 2020
Bogues is is a wiry guard who has seemed to add muscle since I last saw him in the fall. He is tough and aggressive in the way he attacks the rack. The two-way guard stood out on Friday, scoring a game-high 24 points in the loss to Sulphur Springs.
Tristen Newton / 6’4″ / SG / El Paso Burges / 2019
I am heavily irritated by the fact that I did not get a chance to evaluate Tristen Newton. However, I heard he had a few great scoring performances at the Mansfield ISD Spring Creek Barbeque Tournament. The Division I-caliber unsigned senior scored 39 points in the win vs. Arlington Martin and 50 points in a five-point loss to (eventual tournament champion) Mansfield Timberview. He is one I must go check out, as he averaged 41 points per game coming into the tournament.
Damon Nicholas / 6’4″ / SF / Duncanville / 2021
Nicholas is doing a terrific job playing his role within the Panther system. The sophomore moves well without the ball, finishes strong at the rim, and is a decent rebounder. He combined for 25 points in his two performances against Frisco Liberty and Wilmer Hutchins, playing alongside nationally ranked talent.
Zion Richardson / 6’4″ / SG/ Frisco Liberty / 2019
Richardson takes on the point guard duties for the Redhawks. The unsigned senior displayed a capable jumpshot from deep and an ability to absorb contact and get to the foul line. The athletic guard needs to continue working on his jumper, ball handling, and knowing when to attack and attempt. He scored 16 points in a early Friday morning blowout loss to Duncanville.
Anthony Scott/ 5’7″ / PG / Waco Midway / 2020
It was the best I have seen Scott play since his solid performance against Nike EYBL Drive Nation 17U this past summer. He showcased his end to end speed and is a blur in the open court. Scott still needs to fine tune his offensive game, improve his decision making, and not let his emotions get the best of him. The lefty guard plays hard and averaged 18 points per game throughout tournament play. Scott was named to the Mansfield ISD Spring Creek Barbeque All-Tournament team due to his level of play.
