BEST DUO | DAJOUR RUCKER & DANNY BANISTER | CAPE HENRY ‘19
Marshall commit Dajour Rucker and Hampton pledge Danny Banister combined to equal the scoring total of the entire Rock Creek team in the first half of their convincing win on Saturday, but their impact was also felt on the glass as they combined to out-rebound the entire opposing team in the game. Rucker made his presence felt inside, where he got whatever he wanted. The 6-foot-6 forward finished with 34 points and 16 rebounds, 7 of which were plucked from the offensive boards. Banister hit four of six from deep, and pulled down 11 defensive rebounds, 9 coming off the defensive glass.
BEST DEFENDER | ZION RUSSELL | GEORGETOWN PREP ‘21
Zion Russell is nicely growing into his role as an elite perimeter defender for Georgetown Prep. The sophomore is a strong, athletic guard who reacts quickly and instinctively both on and off the ball defensively. Russell swiped two steals and blocked a shot in Prep’s win over VA Academy.
BEST SLEEPER | MYLES ANDERSON | RIVERDALE BAPTIST ‘19
Myles Anderson is a high IQ wing who checks several boxes each time he hits the court, and was a catalyst during Riverdale’s win over Saint James. At 6-foot-2, Anderson is a good rebounding wing who can handle and create. His shot has looked good so far from spot up situations, and if he can do that consistently more schools will come calling.
BEST UNDER-THE-RADAR PERFORMANCE | TEO RICE | MARET ‘20
Teo Rice isn’t the flashiest guard in the world, but he has shown over time that he is smart, tough, and reliable when you need to make a winning play. Defensively, Rice demonstrated that he is a quick learner who can adjust on the fly he recovered to block an opponent’s shot after being beat by the same step-back move earlier in the game. Rice also showcased his poise, ability to get in the paint and finish through contact on his way to converting the game-winning layup.
BEST UNSIGNED SENIOR | DEJEAN DESIRE | GEORGETOWN PREP ‘19
Dejean Desire has been a monster on the boards thus far this season. The 6-foot-6 forward, who has pulled down at least 15 rebounds each time we’ve seen him this year, snatched 16 in a hard-fought win over Virginia Academy. Even if his offensive game is still a work in progress, we believe that Desire will be able to contribute immediately at the next level with his defensive versatility and rebounding attributes.
