1) Lincoln Prep (8-2)
Heading into last Wednesday, Lincoln Prep was undefeated, and even though they’ve dropped their last two, they still have the best resume in 1A to this point. They also have arguably the top talent in 2020 Chanse Robinson as well. The difference in this year’s team versus last year’s squad for Lincoln Prep is that Robinson is getting more help on a night to night basis, and if that continues, good luck knocking them off the top spot.
2) North Central (10-3)
If there is a collection of talent that is able to compete with Lincoln Prep in 1A, it is definitely over at North Central. And the craziest thing is that none of North Central’s best players are seniors. And only one of the their best players is a junior. They have a really great collection of young talent, and might be set up best for the future unlike any other team in the state.
3) Jonesboro-Hodge (11-2)
If the best player in 1A title doesn’t belong to Chanse Robinson at Lincoln Prep, then it definitely belongs to Ladamien Bradford of Jonesboro-Hodge. He is a matchup nightmare, playing the point guard position at 6’4. He has a lightning quick first step, and the height to simply see over the defense when trying to set up teammates. Not only can he play the guard spot, but he has the athleticism to be a rim protector at the 1A level, and already has a 10 block game this season. If he can get some help this year, they are definite state title contenders.
4) Arcadia (7-2)
Over the last few years, it has been very rare for Arcadia to not be a title contender in 1A. Even a season ago, as the 12 seed they were matched up against eventual state champion White Castle in the playoffs. That game went into overtime, and Arcadia played White Castle tougher than any other team in the playoffs last season. And it looks like they have taken a step back towards contending again this season, only dropping two games so far this year.
5) KIPP Booker T. Washington (9-7)
I will be honest, this ranking is less about what they have done so far this year, and more to do with how bright the future is set up for KIPP Booker T. Washington. Now that isn’t to take away what they have done so far this year, as they are much better than their 9-7 record suggests. They have played the toughest schedule of anyone in this top 5, and although those losses might be tough now, this team isn’t ready to compete yet. However, when they are ready to compete in a couple seasons, having played in big games is going to come in handy.
