Longview is known around the state of Texas for having a talented football program. Football isn’t the only team sport that the Lobos are good at. Their basketball team has some really good players that college coaches may want come check out soon.
I was able to check out the talented Lobos for the second time this season. They took on a very physical fellow 6A Mesquite Horn team that features two Top 100 players in the state for the class of 2020. Horn played tough defense on the Lobos all game but Longview was able to find a way to come out with the 61-52 victory.
The Lobo 3
Malik Henry / 6’8” / PF / Longview / 2020
Henry is not a household name yet but I believe that that will change in the next couple of months. Henry has big time athleticism to go with a high motor. He runs the floor well and likes to show off his athletic ability with powerful dunks in transition. Henry needs to work on getting stronger and scoring more with his back to the basket. He’s a good rebounder that also knows how to block and alter shots.
Zach McGee / 6’6” / SG / Longview / 2019
Mcgee has a reputation for being one of the best shooters in the state of Texas. He has had multiple games this season with 3 or more three pointers in a game, against Mesquite Horn, Zach was face guarded the entire game and received no room from his defender. He didn’t have his best game but he played under control and had some nice finishes around the rim.
Phillip Washington / 5’10” / PG / Longview / 2020
Washington is really fast in the open court and is hard to stay in front of because he has a good change of pace. Washington can score it on all three levels. He has to do a better job of being in control and limiting turnovers but is definitely a talented scoring point guard that has a chance to play at the next level.
Other Notables:
Preston Aymond / 6’6” / Forward / Mesquite Horn / 2020
Aymond showed everyone why he’s D1 Prospect. Aymond displayed skill and solid footwork from the free throw line extended. The Lefty has a smooth looking jump shot that can knock down jumpers off the catch.
Zaakir Sawyer / 6’5” / SF / Mesquite Horn / 2020
Sawyer was impressive on the defensive end and played very physical on both sides of the floor against Longview. He’s a strong slasher that can finish through or over players.
X Factor of the Game
GlasperLongview Junior Guard Chase Glasper made multiple threes and rebounded the ball well in a win against Mesquite Horn.
