Ypsilanti – Lincoln showed up to Saline with a targrt on their back. The stands were full and the crowd was ready to go. And Lincoln was responded. Lincoln got a quick bucket by Jalen Fisher followed by a triple from super prospect Emoni Bates. Saline settled in and fought to stay within striking range, trailing by 10 after 1 quarter.
Saline played well on the defensive end for most of the first half. This allowed them to battle and stay in the game. Senior guard Cameron Johnson came off the bench and stole the show for Lincoln in the first half, scoring 7 second quarter points. Lincoln led 30-16 at the half.
Saline, led by Griffin Yaklich, continued to fight stay close. Yaklich was asked to do it all, and proved to be a gamer. But Lincoln was too much. The story of the night was the perimeter defense by the Railsplitters. The head of the snake, led by Jalen Fisher and Tahj Chatman hounded Saline all night. Lincoln took at 51-31 lead into the final quarter.
Lincoln’s suffocating defense wore Saline down, leading to a 19-8 fourth quarter margin. Superstar freshmen Emoni Bates went off for 11 of his 28 points in the final quarter to seal a 70-39 win for Lincoln.
Most Intriguing Prospects
Emoni Bates (Lincoln, 2022, G/F)
WOW. We might be watching the most talented prospect in Michigan since Chris Webber. Bates can do it all. He runs the floor in transition smoothly and quickly, finishing with a thunderous dunk. He is a rim protector, who can step out and guard the opposing teams top perimeter player as well.
Jalen Fisher (Lincoln, 2019, PG)
A college somewhere needs this kid. He’s a high level perimeter defender. His footwork is excellent and he creates turnovers. Fisher never seems to tire.
Tahj Chatman (Licoln, 2019, PG)
Chatman is another intense perimeter defender. Offensively, he’s smooth in transition showing the ability to finish at the rim or slide off to the wing for a transition 3 pointer.
Griffin Yaklich (Saline, 2020, G)
Yaklich is considered a top 20 recruit in the class of 2020. He has good size and strength, and is creative with the ball. He’s unquestionably the leader of this Saline team.
Amari Frye (Lincoln, 2019, G)
Frye is a scorer at heart but his game continues to develop. While still a multi level scorer, he’s become a solid rebounding guard and a good defender.
Logan Evans (Saline, 2019, F)
This kid could be a prospect off heart alone. He plays so hard every second he’s on the floor. Evans uses grit and hustle to be a solid rebounder.
Cameron Johnson (Lincoln, 2019, G)
Johnson was excellent off the bench. He was smart with the ball, recognizing scoring opportunities and taking advantage of them.
