Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several players who stood out throughout the event.
Spencer Bain, 6’2, G, 2020, Blue Valley West
A rising junior, Bain showed off an all-around game on Saturday, knocking down 3-pointers, handling the ball and setting up teammates and showing the ability to get to the basket. He also got to the free throw line where he was a perfect 4 for 4 in the contest. He finished with nine points.
Kobe Campbell, 6’0, G, 2020, Raytown South
A terrific ball handler who is quick off the dribble and has the ability to change direction and create space, Campbell has the ability to put points on the board in a variety of ways. He scored eight points in the first half of Saturday’s contest against host Leavenworth.
Alton Easley, 5’10, G, 2020, Washington
Easley was much of the Wildcats offense through the early going on Saturday as Washington struggled against Liberty in the first quarter. He later came up big in the third quarter, coming up with a pair of steals and easy layups, then sinking a contested desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer to pull Weashington within 50-46 at the end of three quarters. Easley showed a soft shooting touch in the mid-range, ran the floor well and finished in transition. He finished with 18 points.
Tywan Muturi, 5’10, G, 2020, Washington
Muturi put together an impressive performance for the Wildcats on Saturday against Liberty. After a scoreless first quarter, Muturi came alive in the second quarter, scoring seven key points and helping the Wildcats erase an early 17-0 deficit. Muturi is strong off the dribble and is at his best attacking the basket or pulling up for mid-range jumpers where he shows the ability to knock down contested shots. He finished with 13 points on Saturday.
Mike Sauer, 6’1, G, 2019, Leavenworth
Sauer impressed on Saturday with his all-around game, playing a smart, heady floor game. He plays strong defense and brings solid ball handling, leadership and is a solid outside shooter at the offensive end of the court. Sauer is listed at 6’1, but plays much bigger with a big frame for a guard.
