Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several players who stood out throughout the event.
Jarrett Hensley, 6’8, F, 2019, Leavenworth (pictured)
Hensley is coming off a strong summer competing for MoKan Elite and has since transferred from Shawnee Mission North to Leavenworth where he teams with 2020 forward Reece Williams to form a tough 1-2 punch in the paint. Hensley has terrific size and length and a lot of bounce in his step, capable of blocking shots or throwing down slams. He can handle the ball a little on the perimeter and play a face-up game, or take his game into the paint here he can score over smaller players.
DaVonshai Harden, 6’4, G/F, 2020, Topeka
Harden is an inside-outside wing player who likes to shoot from the outside, handle the ball and can also take his game into the paint and score around the basket. He knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, and finished with 13 points in the Trojans game on Saturday against Blue Valley West.
O’mar Stanley, 6’8, F, 2020, Blue Valley West
Stanley had his way inside on the boards, hauling in a game-high 13 rebounds, including several key boards at the offensive end of the court. He finished with 14 points in Saturday’s contest against Topeka. Stanley features good size and athleticism and has a nose for the ball off the glass as a rebounder. He is a good shot blocker who likes to challenge shots and works hard in the paint.
Grant Stubbs, 6’5, F, 2020, Liberty (Mo.)
Stubbs had a day, putting together a huge first half as he scored in the paint, facing up and attacking the basket and getting to the free throw line. At 6’5, Stubbs is a skilled forward with good athleticism and strength and plays much bigger than his listed height. He has a soft touch around the basket, able tom make short runners and floaters in traffic look easy. He went for 16 points in the first quarter, then added 12 more in the second and went to the half with 28 points and eight rebounds. Stubbs finished with 36 points and 13 rebounds.
Reece Williams, 6’6, F, 2020, Leavenworth
A skilled big man, Williams is terrific at the high post where he is a terrific passer, can put the ball on the floor and has an array of moves. He has good foot work and a natural feel for playing out the high post and playing high-low basketball with 2019 forward Jarrett Hensley.
