Tuesday night had some good district matchups take place around the state of Texas. I decided to watch the Mansfield Lake Ridge Eagles play on the road versus South Grand Prairie Warriors. I had already watched Lake Ridge play this year but I was really anxious to watch their new transfer from Rhode Island 6ft.10 big man Shakiru Odunewu. Shakiru was inserted in the starting line up and played okay against South Grand Prairie but needs to continue to get in shape. Lake Ridge ended up winning a close one 70-63 over the Warriors who were without their best player Karlyn Kenner. This was both teams first district game, the next game will be even tougher for the Lake Ridge Eagles as they take on 6A Texas powerhouse the Desoto Eagles.
Lake Ridge Players of The Game
Justice Marmara / 6’3 / Guard / Mansfield Lake Ridge / 2020
Marmara is a tough hard nosed player that can guard the 2 through the 4 on defense. He is a versatile player that is a capable shooter but likes to attack the rim. Justice finished with 12 points in a win vs. SGP
Jordan Hayes / 5’11 / PG / Mansfield Lake Ridge/ 2019
Hayes was the player of the game in my eyes because his team didn’t play their best as a unit but he made sure to do everything in his power as a playmaker and a facilitator for his team. Hayes is a Unsigned Senior that coaches need to come check out soon because he’s a true floor general that knows how to make others better.
South Grand Prairie Player of the Game
Christian Turner / 6’7 / Forward / South Grand Prairie / 2020
Turner had been struggling on the offensive end the past couple times the staff watched him because he’s settled just for jumpers.Turner showed he’s more than a spot up shooter against Lake Ridge, by rebounding the basketball and using his length to finish around the rim over defenders. Turner showed why he is one of the top prospects in the state of Texas for the class of 2020.
