For those who don’t know, that means a player has shot 50% from the floor overall, 40% from behind the three point line and 90% from the free throw line. Kentucky is known for it’s skilled shooters. Here’s a look at which Kentuckians could eclipse those marks this season.
- South Oldham’s Luke Morrison – The Junior wing just needs to make some more free throws. Morrison is shooting 57.8% from the field, 54% from three (which is crazy) and 77.9% from the free throw line. If Luke just maintains what he’s doing and makes more of his free throws the rest of the season, he will get the rare honor of joining the club.
- Simon Kenton’s Kelly Niece – Only a Sophomore, Kelly is a highly efficient scorer and is maybe the best scorer in the 2021 class. Niece is shooting 56.3% from the field, 46.3% from three and 82.9% from the free throw line. The 6’2 guard is making 10 shots per game while averaging 26 points per game.
- Adair County’s Anthony Payne – One of Kentucky’s off the radar prospects, Payne is only half a percentage point away from qualifying from the club. The Senior is shooting 54.3% from the field overall, 39.5% from the three and is fourth in the state in free throw percentage at 90.9%.
- St. Patrick’s Riley Mastin – St. Patrick hasn’t won a game yet this year but Mastin is having a great season individually. He’s shooting 50.7% from the field overall and 92.5% from the free throw line. The only thing slowing him down is his 3 point shooting and he’s at 31.3% from behind the three point arc.
- Rowan County’s Mason Moore – Another Sophomore, Moore is presently in the club. He’s ranked highly in the state at 64.7% from the field, 55.9% from 3 and 90.7% from the free throw line. Mason is one of the top ranked in the state in all three categories and could be among the top shooters in the state if he took more threes.
- Paducah Tilghman’s Rodriguez Thomas – Rod is off to a strong start to his Senior campaign. The point guard is shooting 50.6% from the field, 40.4% from the three point line and 90% from the free throw line. He joins Mason Moore in the 50-40-90 club already this season. Thomas just needs to ride it out.
- Perry County Central’s Noah Back – Noah has long been considered one of the top shooters in the state and this season has been no different. Back could join the 50-40-90 club if he can raise his shooting percentage overall. The 6’3 Senior is making 44.9% of his shots overall, 43.7% from three and 85% from the charity stripe.
- Lexington Christian’s Kyle Rode – The 6’7 Senior is quietly having an amazing season. Kyle is shooting 58.3% from the field, 50% from three and 84.4% from the free throw line. Add to that the fact that he is doing it all for the Eagles this year and you can’t help but be impressed with the season Rode is having. Not to mention the career he has had as a 5 year starter for Coach Valentine’s team.
