Iowa’s Player of the Week Poll (4)
Patrick McCaffery (Iowa City West)
The future Iowa Hawkeyes forward did something nobody in the history of Iowa City West hoops had ever done last week: score 42 points in a game. The Trojans’ single-game scoring record came in a win over Cedar Rapids Washington. Later that week, McCaffery had a 27 point, nine rebound effort against Iowa City Liberty. He averaged 34.5 points in the two wins, and shot 73 percent from the floor.
Ben Obert (Coon Rapids-Bayard)
Efficiency was the key to this 6-foot-3 guard’s success last week. He was 13-18 from the floor in a 30 point effort against ACGC. He was then 11 of 16 from the floor in a Crusaders win over Paton-Churdan. All together, Obert averaged 27.5 points on 71 percent shooting last week. He averaged 7.5 per game for good measure.
Noah Carter (Dubuque, Senior)
Dubuque, Senior is starting to find its stride, winners of three straight heading into the Winter Break. Northern Iowa recruit Noah Carter is finding his stride, too. The 6-foot-5 forward averaged 25.5 points on 67 percent shooting in two Rams wins last week. Also 8.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks.
Caleb Delzell (Camanche)
Camanche is 8-0 and ranked No. 2 in our Class 2A poll, Caleb Delzell has been instrumental to that early-season success. Last week, Bellevue and West Branch fell victim to the Indians, and Delzell had his best week yet, going for 18 points in each game, and racking up 16 assists in the wins. He was getting it done defensively, too, swiping four steals in the two games.
Michael Keegan (Beckman Catholic)
This lengthy junior guard is a flat-out stat-stuffer and he was dominant in two games last week for the Trailblazers. On Tuesday he went for 28 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, two steals and two blocks. He followed that with a 14 point, seven rebound, six block, four steal effort on Friday. A bonus was his shooting efficiency, Keegan was 65 percent from the floor, 3-6 from deep and 13-14 from the free-throw line.
