Huntington squeezed by Waxahachie on Friday night with a 67-63 win. Twenty hours later, they defeated Lancaster in a calm but competitive game, winning by 15 points. Here are the national prospects on the team that showed out on their squad:
Jaemyn Brakefield / 6’8″ / PF / Huntington Prep / 2020
Brakefield might have been the prospect that stood out to me the most. He is big, strong, long, and has skill to add to his imposing frame. A coach can put him at either of the forward positions and he will be successful. The perimeter skills, effort on the glass, and abilities in the open floor leads me to believe that he will be a problem at the next level. It will be interesting to see if he reclasses to 2019 or plays out the summer and stays in 2020.
A.J. Hoggard / 6’3″ / PG / Huntington Prep / 2020
Hoggard is a power lead guard who is always composed and looking to make good plays. He hits the spot up three and uses the glass well when finishing under the rim. The Pennsylvania native is great decision maker and his play in the game vs. Lancaster earned himself Game MVP Honors. The junior prospect who could possibly reclass to 2019 was the best guard on the floor on Saturday afternoon.
J.T. Thor / 6’9″ / C / Huntington Prep / 2021
J.T. Thor really opened my eyes this weekend. I am surprised national sites do not have him rated as a five-star because he certainly is deserving. If Thor played basketball in the state of Texas, he would be the best prospect with the most upside in the state without question. He has an extremely lengthy body, but is further along with his skillset than any of Texas’ sophomore prospects and is still not a finished product. His incredible length, functional strength and steadily improving skillset makes him a special prospect.
Quinn Slazinski / 6’8″ / PF / Huntington Prep / 2019
The Houston native made his return to the Lone Star State and showed that he is loving his role as a spot-up option at Huntington Prep. He hit some contested threes off the catch and was always willing to make the extra pass. The Louisville commit will be a solid stretch four option at the next level with his strong body and solid size.
