Here, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at several guards who raised their profile at the event.
Trey Bates, 5’11, G, 2019, Piper
Bates put together a big week in DeSoto as he helped lead the Pirates within a point of capturing a tournament championship. He averaged 18.5 points, three assists and three steals while 60 percent from 3-point range. Bates has elite speed and quickness, is a terrific defender, capable of pressuring the ball and forcing miscues. He is among the better uncommitted players in the 2019 class.
Tymer Jackson, G, 2019, Olathe North
Jackson was named this year’s MVP aft4er helping leading the Eagles to a 60-59 championship over Piper on Saturday. Jackson is a smooth guard with a well-rounded offensive game. He can get out in transition and convert easy chances, is terrific at creating off the dribble and has an assortment of runners and floaters that helps him scoring in the paint over bigger defenders.
Tevyn McKelvey, 6’0, G, 2020, Gardner-Edgerton
Also a football standout, McKelvey brings a tough, hard-nosed attitude to the hardwood where he works hard at the defensive end, and plays a smart, fundamentally sound brand of basketball at the offensive end of the court. He can handle the ball and is quick to the basket and can also knock down a 3-pointer where he likes shooting from the head of the key. Defensively, he is a pest and works hard at pressuring the basketball.
KT Raimey, 6’2, G, 2020, Olathe North
Raimey is an athletic guard with terrific size and length and the ability to get to the basket off the dribble and can knock down perimeter shots off the catch or the dribble. He has good size at 6’2 and shows the ability to impact the game at both ends of the floor, whether it’s getting in the passing lanes or leading the break.
