Here, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at several forwards who raised their profile at the event.
Luke Jennings, 6’4, G, 2019, Gardner-Edgerton
A strong, left handed forward, Jennings is a standout football player who brings toughness from the gridiron to the hardwood. He runs the floor exceptionally well, has a feel for scoring in the paint and around the basket and is a strong passer. He was big on the boards throughout the tournament in DeSoto and showed a well-rounded game at both ends of the floor.
Anthony Brown, 6’5, F, 2019, Olathe North
Brown has a unique skill set for a big man, capable of rebounding and scoring around the basket, but is even more comfortable on the perimeter. Brown has a big frame and uses it to carve out space on the boards or in the post, but he is at his best on the 3-point line where he is a terrific outside shooter and a skilled ball handler and passer. He was named to the all-tournament team for his efforts.
Chris Miller, 6’6, F, 2020, Blue Valley Southwest
Miller helped BV Southwest rally from a tough semifinal loss to Olathe North to get a big win over Gardner Edgerton on Saturday. He is a skilled 6’6 forward who can attack the basket off the bounce, score around the basket and runs the floor exceptionally well. Miller is a long, rangy frame and the ability to play above the rim at both ends of the floor. He can handle it a little on the perimeter, but is at his best scoring in the lane.
Kian Scroggins, 6’5, F, 2020, Raymore-Peculiar
Scroggins is among the Kansas City area’s most improved rising juniors, armed with a well-rounded and diverse skill set. A left hander, he can shoot from the outside, handles the ball well on the perimeter for a big man and likes to post up where he can score over smaller defenders or face up and attack bigger defenders. Scroggins has drawn interest from various college programs.
