Harris Barker landed at #77 in the most recent Class of 2019 rankings.
Barker suffered a season-ending leg injury last winter, which prevented him from playing at all. He was back by June and continues to get more athletic by the week.
Offense (0-15): 10
Offensively Harris is a 10. Strength for Harris is scoring in the paint. He is a good jumper and a good leaper. Harris boasts great leg strength and balance.
Barker’s average change of direction is a hindrance. His hips are not as loose as some elite college shooting guards. Also, Barker is a touch robotic mid-air. While in flight Barker will absorb contact on occasion and finish.
Without a doubt Harris Barker will and does do great in high school and as a varsity starter above the guards in the forwards. When he gets against college forwards he should be able to crash into their chests and finish. Right now that seems difficult to imagine comfortably for Barker. Natural physical development is anticipated.
Areas of strength offensively include speed with the ball and shooting consistency.
Defense (0-10): 8
Defensively Harris should be an 8.
On the defensive side of the ball he has pretty much all of the attributes needed.
Great size to challenge shots.
Barker doesn’t feature spectacular lateral quickness. He doesn’t have the catch-up burst though he does have the height perhaps to challenge at the Rim from behind.
Much of defense depends upon “want to” and based on and the injury recovery I have seen from Harris his will and self-determination are strong.
Rebounding (0-10): 6
Harris Barker is a classic 2. Right now he is probably 5 or 6 on a 10 point scale.
Harris has a body though developing into potentially a very strong rebounder. Barker is currently agile enough to grab rebounds that slightly come off sideways or over the arching hands of the big man.
Ideally he develops better instincts for those balls and where they’re coming from.
Passing (0-10): 6
Passing comes down to two things: unselfishness and also vision. Harris is not selfish typically though he needs better vision. Barker tends to be very direct attacking-wise.
Harris Barker might be a decent passer, but generally previous evaluations lacked the setting for Barker to pass. He was tasked to score plenty with his few AAU teams. It would be a pure guess to arrive at any number with certainty on passing. For the purposes of achieving a overall score today he gets a 6.
Intangibles (0-5): 5
Injury recovery requires a lot of grit and guts. After recovery he’s in great shape again.
After a long layoff don’t expect Harris Barker to have the long slumps or physical hiccups as he understands how to get his body ready for games, an important aspect of every player’s life.
Apparent a trainer a coach everybody promotes Harris which is a strong indication of High character.
FINAL SCORE (0-50): 35
Harris Barker is a high character volume scorer with average leaping ability at 6-foot-4. What is not to like?
Injury recovery requires a lot of grit and guts. After recovery he’s in great shape again.
After a long layoff don’t expect Harris Barker to have the long slumps or physical hiccups as he understands how to get his body ready for games, an important aspect of every player’s life.
Harris Barker should land at a Big South or Ohio Valley Conference basketball program with the right eyes on him.
