Friday’s Top Performers: Hoop City Classic
Day two of the Hoop City Classic didn’t disappoint at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.
Day three resumes today in both the Sanford Pentagon and the Corn Palace.
Here are some of Friday’s top performers and vote at the end on who you believe the top performer of the day was:
Keion Brooks – La Lumiere (Ind.)
The duo for La Lumiere came up big for the No. 1 team as they defeated Findlay Prep in OT. Brooks fouled out but before that, he had 25 points and 6 boards. La Lumiere plays No. 1 in SD Class A Tea Area tonight at 9:30 p.m. at the Sanford Pentagon.
Isaiah Stewart – La Lumiere (Ind.)
He had a monster game for La Lumiere as they won in OT against Findlay Prep. He lived up to the hype that surrounded him coming into the Hoop City Classic. He had 24 points, 17 boards and 3 blocks.
PJ Fuller – Findlay Prep (Nev.)
Fuller almost willed his team with a major upset of the No. 1 team La Lumiere but came up just short in OT. Fuller finished with 28 points for Findlay Prep. They play against Sioux Falls O’Gorman at 5 p.m. today at the Sanford Pentagon.
Matthew Mors – Yankton
The biggest prospect in the state of South Dakota hasn’t disappointed so far. He shined out last year in this classic and has so far this year as well. He had 22 points and five assists in their win against Dominican (Wis.). They will play DeLaSalle (Minn.) tonight at the Pentagon at 8 p.m.
Bo Bennett – Dominican (Wis.)
As their leading scorer continues to struggle, Bennett stepped up for Dominican but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as they got beat by Yankton 72-52. Bennett had a double-double, 16 points and 10 boards. They play Sioux Falls Washington at 2 p.m. at the Sanford Pentagon.
Luke Ronsiek – SF O’Gorman
The Mount Marty commit almost had a rare double-double for the Knights in their win against in-state foe Mitchell. He had 14 points and 7 steals. Three steals away from getting a points and steals double-double. They face a tough Findlay Prep (Nev.) team, who took the No. 1 team into OT last night, at 5 p.m. today at the Sanford Pentagon.
Noah Christensen – Breckenridge (Minn.)
The future North Dakota State Bison had a double-double, 33 points and 12 boards in their OT win against SD Class B No. 1 Bridgewater-Emery. Christensen needed every one of those points as they played a tough Huskies team. They play Sioux Falls Christian at 3:30 p.m. today at the Sanford Pentagon.
Sawyer Schultz – Bridgewater-Emery.
The Class B No. 1 team almost had a nice upset of powerhouse Breckenridge (Minn.) as they took them to OT before falling 79-77. Schultz padded the stat sheet with 23 points, 8 boards and 4 steals. The Huskies will play at the Corn Palace against Mitchell Christian at 6:30 p.m. tonight.
Tyrell Terry – DeLaSalle (Minn.)
The Stanford commit led all scorers with 38 points on the day. His team was probably the talk of the day with the last second three to defeat Mountian Brook (Ala.) 63-62. He has definitely upped his per game average up a couple points at this classic so far. DeLaSalle faces off against Yankton and Matthew Mors tonight at 8 p.m. at the Sanford Pentagon.
Trendon Watford – Mountain Brook (Ala.)
Watford and Mountain Brook were on the unfortunate end of the buzzer-beating shot on Friday against DeLaSalle. Never the less they have had a great couple of games in Mitchell. Watford led the team last night recording a double-double, 18 points and 10 boards. Mountain Brook closes out their games at the Corn Palace against Mitchell at 5 p.m.
