Hugo and Fort-Cobb Broxton engaged in one of the most exciting gams of the season Thursday morning. The small-school juggernauts opened Friday morning in the closest game to this point in the tournament. The Mustangs established an early 18-point lead in the second quarter. The Buffs battled their way back behind an impressive off-the-bench shooting performance from Donte Shanklin. Hugo took its first lead since the opening minutes of the game with a pair of technical free throws early in the fourth quarter. The ‘Stangs and Buffaloes began trading shots in an entertaining fashion, and after exchanging the lead or tying eight times in the fourth quarter, Hugo was down three with possession at their own end with less than 30 seconds to go. A 3-pointer to tie the game just rimmed out for the Buffaloes. Kellen Hines led both teams with 39 points. Fort Cobb-Broxton would go on to take the 64-59 win to advance to the consolation game.
