Friday Night Preview: The Hot Ticket
It’s Friday! Time to talk about the best games in the state. Most of you get to sleep in tomorrow so tonight, get out and see a game! Minnesota High School Hoops is at a peak of talent right now so enjoy!
The Class AAAA Round Robin. So who is stepping up and joining the best vs the best in tonight’s battle of Class AAAA heavyweight games?
Edina at Park Center. Hey Pirates, you are number 1! So, how are you going to handle it? Coach Burger has led Edina to wins over #1 ranked teams before, a couple times recently in fact (Wayzata two years ago is freshest in the mind). Inside we have a four star big in Dain Dainja facing another top big in the state, Jacob Hutson of Edina. There is also Jack Middleton as one of the state’s best defenders likely trailing Tommy Chatman Jr. Should be fun.
CDH at East Ridge. It’s for the SEC edge. It’s for an edge in the section. It’s for spots in the polls. It’s the top frosh guard (Tre Holloman) vs the top sophomore guard (Kendall Brown). It’s seniors that are committed to D1s: Courtney Brown Jr (Milwaukee) vs Jaeden King (Western Illinois). It’s Ben Carlson grabbing a dozen boards trying to counter the hot streak that Curtis Jones and Amari Carter are on. Let’s Go!!!
How Good Are You? We got some teams on a hot streak in this state. Now they have a big name in front of them. Time to PROOVE YOURSELF!
Moorhead at Osseo. Last night the Spuds fell flat at Maple Grove. Their two day weekend continues with Osseo tonight. Last week the Spuds road trip was wins over BSM and Buffalo. Can they go 3-1 on the trips?
Centennial at New Prague. Cougars got a couple nice wins, New Prague fell on their face after a good win against Lakeville South. Trojans have to get a win, Centennial wants that 3-1 spot. Love Carter Anderson vs Tyler Kemp. Cougars have the guard edge, New Prague is way bigger.
Apple Valley at St. Thomas. Hey, those No-Name Eagles (maybe not a nickname they like, but they are all new names to the varsity rotation and we are still learning them, so they get that “sleeping on us” nickname) are 2-1 with good wins over Armstrong and Woodbury. Can they step up and get STA? Coach Goring and Coach Birr, two really good coaches.
Roseville at Stillwater. Starting five seniors, the Ponies are 4-0 right now. Good challenge with Roseville this evening, can they get to 5-0? Trenton Atwood, Nate Shickenjanski, and Ben Recksiedler are all scoring 15 plus a night. Great start, but Roseville will be a tougher opponent.
Prior Lake at Minnetonka. A top ranked team coming to Tonka to face the undefeated Skippers. Could be fun! Cameron Steele! You are in the spotlight young man. Remember those grade three dominations back in the day at camp? Let’s see what you got! Steele and the Skippers get a chance to go at national standout Dawson Garcia and his crew. Garcia has been every bit the national stud so far this year.
EP at Chanhassen. The Storm welcomes the Eagles. Will the Eagles fly through the lightning and get their prey? Chanhassen is undefeated so far with different guys stepping up each game. Will they run and celebrate the biggest win of their career? Or will EP go home taking another challenge and adding it to the W column? Let’s Go!
Alexandria at Fergus Falls. Alex has some young players really stepping up with seniors. How good are they? Tonight they are in Otter country where Matthew Johnson is that veteran standing guard at his hometown gym. Fergus has done well against a tough schedule so far so they should be ready for a challenge.
Maple River at USC. Last night AJ Kloos of USC went for 37 points and 12 rebounds including a 65 foot three-pointer at the buzzer beating Loyola. That puts USC at 5-0 on the year and tonight the Rebs get Maple River.
