The Forest Hills Huskies lit it up against the Hudsonville Eagles 91-68 to win the Silver Division of the Cornerstone University High School Holiday Tournament in a game featuring two 6-0 teams. The Huskies improve to 7-0 while the Eagles fall to 6-1.
The Huskies pushed the ball up the court all day starting out hot and draining three pointers and never letting up. By the end of the first quarter they were up 28-7. The Huskies finished 12-18 from 3 point range. The game evened out the rest off the way with Hudsonville keeping pace but the first quarter barrage was just too much to overcome.
TEN BEST:
MVP: Ethan Erickson ( Forest Hills Northern)
The 5’11 Sophomore guard was selected tournament MVP. He went 6-7 from three and 8-10 from the free throw line.
Play of the game: Trent Summerfield and Trinidad Chambliss back to back threes in 2nd quarter
When it looked like Hudsonville was going to make a run in the 2nd and push the pace themselves, Summerfield and Chambliss stole their momentum and hit back to back threes.
Best offensive performance: Trent Summerfield ( Forest Hills Northern)
The 6’3 senior point guard played a complete game. He finished with 18 points and 8 assists. He was the quarterback on the floor and really lead the Huskies up the floor directing traffic and communicating all night long.
Best defensive performance: Drew Moore (Forest Hills Northern)
The 6’3 F had 4 blocks and 3 steals. He was a pesk all night long filling lanes and disrupting passes.
Best guy off the bench: Trinidad Chambliss (Forest Hills Northern)
The Sophomore guard played 20 minutes off the bench and finished with 10 points, 2 assists and 3 rebounds.
Best intangibles: Hudsonville
This team went down by 21 points in the first quarter and they didn’t just throw the towel in but came out and competed. Kudos to the leadership on that squad as they outscored the Huskies in the second and third quarters.
Best under-the-radar performance: Caleb Gildner (Forest HIlls Northern)
The 5-9 senior guard scored 12 points, 1 assist and 2 steals per game, while playing only 11 minutes. His energy and impact was felt on both ends of the court.
Best underclassmen: Ethan Erickson ( Forest Hills Northern)
The Forest Hills Northern sophomore was 6-of-7 from beyond the 3-point arc and finished with a game-high 22 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists. He was named MVP of tourney. Keep your eyes on this kid as he will surely become a college prospect with numbers like these.
Stat of the day: The Huskies 3-point shooting
Forest Hills Northern hit 8 three pointers in the first half and finished 12-18 in the game.
