ISHMAEL LEGGETT TRENDING UP
From opening tip until the final whistle, Ishmael Leggett played with tremendous intensity on both ends of the floor, and this permeated throughout his team. With VCU Assistant Coach JD Byers in the house, Leggett had a solid all around game. He stuck corner threes with regularity, but also consistently finishing strong around the rim in traffic. Leggett scored a game-high 21 points, and has quite clearly become an indispensable player for SJC Head Coach Pat Behan.
HUNT & FAUNTLEROY IMPRESS IN THEIR RETURN
Prior to picking up his three first-half fouls and what looked like an injury to his right leg, DeLonnie Hunt had his way with the SJC defense. Hunt persevered through the fouls and the bum leg to have a productive outing in his return. Guy Fauntleroy also hit some tough shots in this game, and can be proud of his overall effort despite coming up short.
MORSELL IMPROVING AS A PLAYMAKER
One thing that became clear throughout this game are the improvements Casey Morsell has made as a playmaker. Morsell demonstrated improved court vision and set up his teammates well both in half court offense and in transition.
CAMERON BROWN IS ONE TO WATCH
Cameron Brown is a current freshman who stood out as an eighth grader for us last year on the JV team, and is carving out a niche as an energy guy who picks up full court defensively, but can also consistently break down the defense with his quickness and ball-handling skills. Brown had a solid overall game against Bowie at North Point last weekend, and followed up with another one last night.
BONUS TAKES
John “Mikey” Square continues to make an impact with his overall hustle. SJC outrebounded Rock Creek in this game, and Square was helpful in that department.
Devon Savage is quietly having a very good sophomore season. The 6-foot-5 wing is knocking down perimeter jumpers with regularity, defending with pride, and showcases a good feel for the game.
James Gross Jr. is becoming an important player for this Rock Creek team. The athletic sophomore wing is one of their best rebounders, and will have to stay consistent in that department if they hope to succeed.
2020 Milton Matthews found his stroke after going cold last weekend. The lefty is quickly establishing a reputation as one of the best shooters in the area.
