The Broncos held Olathe West to two points in the second quarter and after trailing 18-8 at the end of the first, went to the half leading 22-20 and carried that momentum into the second half.
Spring Hill brings lots of size to the court
The Broncos’ starting line-up goes 6’9, 6’6, 6’5, 6’4 and 6’1 and features plenty of length as well. They cover a lot of ground and have 6’9 2019 John Frakes to clean things up around the basket. Spring Hill’s length gave Olathe West fits in the second quarter as they struggled to finish in the lane.
Brennen Feeback puts together a big game
Also a football standout who holds an offer from MidAmerica Nazarene, Spring Hill 6’5, 200-pound 2019 forward Brennen Feeback had a monster performance for the Broncos on Monday. A strong and athletic left handed forward, Feeback does a lot of his damage in the paint, both posting up and facing up on the perimeter and driving to the hoop, He finished the contest with 30 points and 15 rebounds and bookended the performance by coming up big in the first quarter, where he scored all eight of Spring Hill’s points and in the fourth quarter. With Olathe West implementing a fullcourt press, Feeback was on the back end attacking the basket and scoring in the lane after the Broncos broke through the pressure.
Mason a player to watch
One of the state’s top prospects in the 2021 class, Olathe West 6’0 point guard Alston Mason probably didn’t have his best performance on Monday, but showed a lot of the tools that have college coaches already paying attention. He is quick and explosive off the bounce, able to break down a defense off the dribble, can get all the way to the basket and can also shoot from beyond the 3-point arc. Mason plays the game under control and with confidence and shows terrific court vision.
Big man that can shoot, block shots
Meet Spring Hill 6’9 2019 big man John Frakes, an underrated player who despite being slight of build has the ability to impact the game at both ends of the floor. He combines terrific length and agility with a developing skill set. He was a game changer at the defensive end on Monday as he made life difficult for Olathe West around the basket. At the offensive end of the floor he shows a unique skill set and he can knock down 3-pointers and spread the floor. Frakes can also put the ball on the floor and shoot tough jumpers off the bounce.
Offense off the bench
Olathe West 5’9 2020 guard Sam Nicodemus came in off the bench and provided instant offense for the Owls. A left hander, Nicodemus is a solid ball handler with the ability to shoot from the outside, get into the lane and make short jumpers and runners. He finished the contest with 12 points.
