Eaglet’s guard Lorne Bowman was outstanding in the game, collecting 26 points and grabbing five rebounds. Defensively, St. Mary’s was able to force 23 turnovers, and they turned those into points a majority of the time. For the Crusaders, Micah Johnson was solid and will continue to grow. St. Mary’s will play Grosse Pointe North in the L’Asne Creuse North Crusader Classic championship game at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 28.
Lorne Bowman is special
Most people probably know this already, but it’s hard to watch him and not be impressed by his game. He can really do it all, and that is why he will be heading to Wisconsin after his high school career is over. Nobody on the court could stop him, and he was scoring with ease. He’s one of the best players in the state and could lead the Eaglets to a state title.
Peter Nwoke is a very good player
Bowman stole the show, but Nwoke had a very solid game, dropping six points and collecting seven rebounds. He was a force inside on defense as well, blocking few shots and coming away with a couple of steals. He really knows how to use his size, and he’s only a sophomore. Over the next few years, I expect him to make giant strides and become one of the best players in the state.
Micah Johnson showed promise
There weren’t too many positives for the Crusaders in this game, but Johnson was definitely one of them. He showed great poise and patience with the ball and helped keep his team in the game for a good chunk of the first half. He finished the game with nine points, but his ball handling ability and leadership on the court really stood out. No matter the score, he never got down or frustrated. He stayed with the process, and that is big for high school players.
Kareem Rozier is an A+ passer
He’s only a freshman, but this kid is one of the best passers in the state. He’s knows exactly how to lead a break and find open teammates. Throughout the game he was consistently finding openings in the defense and making the right play. He is a great ball handler with a high basketball IQ. If he continues to work over the next four years, Rozier has the potential to be great.
Brian Bendo gave the Crusaders a spark
Bendo had a very solid night for the Crusaders. He poured in 10 points and knocked down two 3-pointers. Bendo provided a spark when the Crusaders needed it most. He was hitting shots, which helped keep them in the game early, and he should continue to see more looks going forward. He’s a solid player that will do whatever it takes to help the team win.
