LYNCH HELPS PROPEL IRETON OVER LOYOLA
In probably the most competitive game of the day in terms of score, Bishop Ireton defeated Loyola by 2 points after a late go-ahead basket by ’19 guard Ethan Lynch, who scored 10 of his team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter. ’20 Mitch Fischer was the primary standout for Loyola, scoring a game-high 22 points. Ireton also received contributions from ’20’s James Berry (12 points), Sese Mobutu (11 points), and ’21 Ariel Goddot (11 pts).
SJC DEFENSE STIFLES PALLOTTI
In the lowest scoring game of the day, St. John’s outlasted Pallotti 52-35 behind a stingy team defensive performance. Several guys took charges, including ’20’s John “Manzie” Wilson, John “Mikey” Square and ’19 Jalin Abbott. ’20 guard Ishmael Leggett stood out in particular with his continuous effort on the offensive glass and overall toughness. Virginia commit Casey Morsell led the team with a strong two-way performance, while ’20 Darius Maddox provided instant offense.
BALANCE PROVES ESSENTIAL FOR PVI
McDaniel had a breakout performance in front of a large audience, recording 13 points, 6 boards, 6 assists, and 2 stealsPaul VI defeated St. Frances 67-58 in the absence of Jeremy Roach, and Anthony Harris for most of this hard-fought game. Guys like ’20 Josiah Freeman and ’21 Trevor Keels carried the torch with some hot shooting early, but ’19 Xavier Joyner (5 3’s) and ’22 Dug McDaniel came up big over the course of this game. McDaniel in particular was excellent down the stretch, scoring 11 fourth quarter points. ’20 Will Paige also came in and gave Coach Farello some good minutes in the second half with great effort and solid fundamentals. ’20 Jamal West was the main standout for SFA, as he dominated the paint area on both ends with his length, athleticism, and relentless motor. ’20 Jordan Toles hauled in 9 boards to go along with 14 hard-earned points (8/12 FT). ’22 Carlos Alexander also impressed at times, dropping 16 points, some of which coming in exciting fashion.
MOTIVATED GONZAGA THROTTLES MSJ
One night after losing in heartbreaking fashion at McNamara, Gonzaga responded with a 40-point blowout win over a very good Mount Saint Joe squad. They key was defensively, where they held James Bishop to just 7 points. Brown commit Josh Watts took on that challenge early in this game, but several others such as ’21 Malcolm Dread and ’19 Anwar Gill took turns hounding the LSU commit. ’20 Terrance Williams paced the Eagles with 16 points, and his classmate Myles Stute chipped in with 10. and ’20 Jason Edokpavi, who stood out at times by making impact plays on each end, led the Gaels with 9 points.
DICKINSON DOMINANT FOR DEMATHA
Hunter Dickinson, who scored a team-high 21 points, led DeMatha to a commanding 77-56 win over a very good Goretti squad. Dickinson hit three triples, blocked a handful of of shots, and altered several others. Villanova commit Justin Moore, who contributed 19 points, played solid defense on RJ Blakney. Blakney led the Gaels with 12 points.
