Here we recap this IAC/MAC matchup by answering five key questions.
WHY ARE THE QUAKERS PLAYING SO WELL?
One word, defense. Anytime you are able hold an opponent to two points in the first quarter, especially on the road, you will put yourself in good position to win. Sidwell does a great job communicating on defense, holding each other accountable, and the players are not afraid to step up and take a charge.
WHO WAS THE BEST PLAYER ON THE FLOOR?
The best player on the floor last night had to be Jason Gibson, who continues to prove that he will do whatever it takes ti win games. Gibson scored an efficient 25 points, but also rebounded, created for his teammates, and took two on-ball charges.
WHAT OTHER PLAYERS STOOD OUT?
Afamdi Achufusi made an impact early in this game with his effort, securing two offensive rebounds in the first quarter. The sophomore, who is listed at 6-foot-3 but could still be growing, did a nice job attacking the basket and seeking contact in the paint throughout this game.
Asa Shannon made a handful of hustle plays on the defensive end for Episcopal, but continues to showcase his versatility on the offensive end as well. He was by far their best rebounder and rim protector, but also made some smart plays with the ball in his hands.
WHERE DID JOHN LOUGHLIN COME FROM?
We’re not exactly sure where he is from, but freshman John Loughlin is really growing into a key role off the bench for Maroon Head Coach Jim Fitzpatrick. Loughlin has proven to be a dead-eye shooter, but also showed that he can mix it up off the bounce and attack the basket tonight.
HOW GOOD ARE SIDWELL’S FRESHMEN?
Both George Perkins and Chris Gamble have made a profound impact in their first year of high school basketball. At about 6-foot-8, Perkins used his length and high motor to make an impact the game on the defensive side of the ball upon checking into this game. Gamble is a confident shooter and ball handler who plays fearlessly for a player with such little experience. Both freshmen seem to be gaining confidence with each game, and have bright futures moving forward.
