Continue ReadingPrep Hoops is making its rounds around the state with the start of the basketball season. Next week holiday tourneys will be starting up throughout the Palmetto State. Lets take a look at some players who have made a great first impression this past month. Expect to see these names added to the new rankings later this month here at Prep Hoops.
Isayah Owens (2020) – High Point Academy (Spartanburg)
Owens played last season at nearby Chapman HS. Owens can really create his own shot well and is quite shifty with the ball at times. Owens a combo guard will use a cross-over dribble from time to time to get by defenders. Owens averaged 16 ppg last season while at Chapman HS. Owens spent his freshman season at Spartanburg HS.
Blake Harris (2020) – JL Mann HS (Greenville) (pictured on front)
Harris is a great catch-shoot guy on the floor. Harris 6’2 played off the ball for the Patriots. Harris has great range on the floor and really has a good feel for the game. Harris shows to have a quick release on his shot.
Jalen Deloach (2020) – Gray Collegiate
Deloach recently moved into Gray Collegiate this fall from Savannah, GA. Deloach 6’7 is a long and slender young man who can really run the floor well. Deloach has the ability to face-up on the floor and shows to have great length. Deloach can alter and challenge shots on the defensive end of the floor.
Drayton Watson (2021) – Spartanburg HS
Watson a point guard for the (4-1) Vikings really sees the floor well. Watson shows to have great body control and really finishes on contact. Watson plays under control at all times and at a nice pace on the floor. Watson can extend the defense with some perimeter shooting. Watson rebounds the ball on both ends of the floor very well fro from the guard spot.
Jaylen Reeves (2021) – Beaufort Academy
Reeves 5’6 is a water-bug of a point guard. Reeves can really push the ball from side to side and keep it on a string. Reeves transferred into the Eagles this off season from nearby Whale Branch HS. Reeves was usually one-step ahead of his teammates on the floor with his crisp passes. Reeves did hit a few 12-14 footers when not turning the cover and taking the ball to the rack.
