Continue ReadingThe season is in full swing and we are knocking out games left and right. This edition of our Weekend Evaluations from our Friday and Saturday. This has games from South Bend Riley vs. Evansville Harrison, Castle vs. Frederick Douglas (KY), Evansville Memorial vs. Indianapolis Howe, Evansville Bosse vs. Gary West, and Evansville Reitz vs. University Heights (KY).
#3 Gabe Johnson – 6’4 SF 2019 – South Bend Riley (IN) [Committed to Bethel College]
**19 points against Evansville Harrison (IN)**
Gabe is a solid wing that can provide rebounding and defensive versatility. Still a little raw on the offensive side of the ball but can work himself into points on boards. Gabe was better in the second half when he could get nice post feeds faced up and have a little baby floater or two handed layup at the rim.
#11 Jalen Jennings – 5’8 PG 2019 – South Bend Riley (IN) [Committed to Indiana Wesleyan (FB)]
**16 points against Evansville Harrison (IN)**
Jennings is a solid lead guard with tons of speed and breakdown ability. Was good getting into the lane and effective as a driver to his left hand. Thought he picked it up in the middle of the game and made things a little easier for the offense because of his aggressiveness.
#33 Isaiah Edinburgh – 6’4 SF 2019 – Evansville Harrison (IN)
**23 points against South Bend Riley (IN)**
Probably one of the best games we have seen from Edinburgh. Was really tough and physically imposing, showing the use of his frame pretty much all game. Was tough when he wanted to drive and had a big floater and right hand drive in the first half to help open up his perimeter shooting. Hit a few threes and looked good on the release. Looks 6’4 and probably 200 so the frame is ready to go for college. With the variety of ways he was scoring, he had a lot of
#12 Mason Bost – 6’2 SG 2019 – Evansville Harrison (IN)
**14 points against South Bend Riley (IN)**
Bost is a tall off guard who can really shoot the ball. He’s a little thin right now but frame looks solid and he’s going to fill it out in college. Was really solid off the catch and even made some plays at the rim in transition getting dump offs. Has a little bit of a quick twitch to him and enough handles that he can really play well getting in the lane, just more of a secondary skill right now. Could see him being a small school shooter that develops later.
#10 Blake Wesley – 6’2 SG 2021 – South Bend Riley (IN)
**17 points against Evansville Harrison (IN)**
Blake is a long, rangy guard with a ton of athleticism and skill. He was really aggressive early in the second quarter. Drove well to the rim to his right and finished strong, drawing some and-ones. Pulled up from distance as well and looked solid with it. He’s more effective than we saw him during the summer and finishing better. His biggest knock coming out of July was his finishing ability. Well, he looked a ton better on the day. Can play on the ball a bit, likely more of a wing as he gets older but skilled enough to have that break-you-down game.
#14 Kel’Ondre Dixon – 6’0 PG 2020 – Evansville Harrison (IN)
**21 points against South Bend Riley (IN)**
Dixon is a good lead guard who can really score the ball. A little thin on the frame but very good at all three levels. Attacked the rim constantly and finish well with his right hand. Hit a three early off the catch and even played around in the mid-range a bit. Was good enough with the ball in his hands to stay on the point and with how aggressive and skilled he was, in a year, he could be one of the better guard options in Southern Indiana.
#10 Idris Mitchell – 6’5 SF 2019 – Evansville Harrison (IN)
**12 points against South Bend Riley (IN)**
Idris is a bully at 6’5 and built oh so well. He was very aggressive getting to the rim and used a combination of toughness and skill to get there. Wasn’t just a guy that was going to beat you up but just had enough finesse to also make you foul him. Drew a ton of fouls in this one and didn’t really have to do much other than that early. He did show he can hit a little pull-up a few feet away from the rim. The one knock is the finishing ability. Had a ton of free throws but didn’t ever get the and-ones he needed. Looked solid rebounding the ball on the defensive end and could be a sneaky draw for colleges late in the process.
#12 Alex Hemenway – 6’3 PG 2019 – Castle (IN) [Committed to Clemson]
**21 points against Frederick Douglas (KY)**
Solid game for Hemenway who looked quite a bit better than what we saw last year. Was really good off the catch shooting the ball and didn’t look like he was trying to force anything and playing within the game. Still a guy that can play on the ball in college and will be able to make plays at either guard spot. Attacked the rim quite well, using a little more physical power than finesse.
#34 Louis Brock – 6’4 SF 2020 – Castle (IN)
**9 points against Frederick Douglas (KY)**
Really solid game for Louis Brock who is a tough wing that was mixing it up all over the floor. Was good finishing in the post on the right side. Has just enough size to really separate the ball away from the defender. Also showed a floater in the lane kind of off a curl drive, putting it on the floor a bit. He’s a little more adept at creating than we saw in the past but still shoots the ball pretty well. At least in this game he drove and finished better than he shot.
#20 Bob Nunge – 6’4 SF 2021 – Castle (IN)
**12 points against Frederick Douglas (KY)**
Nunge continues to develop as a solid wing, really rounding out his shooting ability. He’s grown a bit and looks physically better, a little taller and more filled out. Could be ready for a bigger growth spurt here, catching his brother that was over 6’10. Had a pair of catch-and-shoot threes as well as a nice pull-up baseline jumper. Looks a little more creative off the bounce, still maybe getting that confidence going.
#4 Isaiah Swope – 5’10 PG 2021 – Castle (IN)
**11 points against Frederick Douglas (KY)**
Swope is a rangy lead guard with a little jitter to his game. Was really quick getting into the lane and looks like he could pick his spots okay and distribute when he needed to. Was really good off the catch from three. Hit a trio of them and was in rhythm and elevated pretty well. Has some deceptiveness in the lane and thought he was pretty balanced. A ton of on-ball skill that should develop well. Also, thought he could be a good defender. If he can grow a bit, has the length and foot speed to be tough on the ball.
#1 Monteavean Bean – 6’0 PG 2019 – Lexington Douglas (KY)
**13 points against Castle (IN)**
Bean is a long lead guard with some height but a lot of quick play. Likes to play a tick faster than everyone else and showed he could use that well defensively, getting into the passing lanes. Was good off the dribble getting to the rim and took advantage in the second half. Like his pull-up jumper and showed it could end up a bigger skill down the line but wasn’t really aggressive trying to find it.
#2 Nathan Mack – 6’5 SF 2020 – Lexington Douglas (KY)
**5 points against Castle (IN)**
Mack is a big forward with a great frame and mobility. Was physically tough and created some mismatches for Castle at times. Plays as more of a wing but can play inside as well. Had a nice catch-and-shoot mid-range shots. A little passive at times but has the makings of a player that could develop pretty quick.
#2 Kycia Washington Jr. – 6’0 PG 2019 – Indianapolis Howe (IN)
**23 points against Evansville Memorial (IN)**
This was a solid game for Kycia who put up a ton of points and did most of his work seemingly getting to the free throw line. He was aggressive and tough in the lane. Caused a ton of fouls and racked up some points in the lane. Was a little wild shooting from distance, needs to get his feet and body under control still, rather than kind of taking off balance shots all the time.
#10 Creshaun Brown – 6’3 SF 2019 – Indianapolis Howe (IN)
**16 points against Evansville Memorial (IN)**
Really a great game from Brown who put up a ton of perimeter jumpers and hit the majority of them. Was great in rhythm and wasn’t doing more than he needed to. Big wing and physical well built. Didn’t use the body as much as he has in the past but was so effective as a shooter off the catch it was hard to see him doing much more than that.
#3 Jalen Stamps – 5’11 PG 2019 – Indianapolis Howe (IN)
**4 points against Evansville Memorial (IN)**
While he wasn’t as potent on offense, he had a couple plays in the middle of the game where Stamps looked to drive at the rim. Showed off some lateral jukes and created separation. Was solid defensively and helped out that way. His a really solid shooter, normally. If he can put it together in a game, could be a little bit of a breakout candidate. Just want to see that one big game.
#1 Dashon Scott – 6’2 SF 2020 – Indianapolis Howe (IN)
**11 points against Evansville Memorial (IN)**
Scott is a big, bruising wing that used his body to his advantage in this one. Looked to create some room banging into defenders but was still skilled enough that he could play away from the rim. He’s more comfortable playing outside but might not move as well or quick as he could down the road. If he can even get a little more size, would be interesting to see if he can develop more as an interior threat.
#3 Branson Combs – 6’3 SG 2019 – Evansville Memorial (IN)
**10 points against Indianapolis Howe (IN)**
Combs was kind of a do-it-all type in this game. He’s a big guard that can play on the wing and into the middle in transition. Big enough body to handle some pressure and enough toughness to finish it. Got a lot of dump off passes in transition early and took advantage. Likely play a 2/3 at the next level, Combs is a football prospect as well. Combs would be a good small school prospect for Basketball as well.
#41 Sam Devault – 6’9 PF 2019 – Evansville Memorial (IN) [Committed to Austin Peay]
**14 points against Indianapolis Howe (IN)**
This was a pretty good game for Devault who showcased his ball handling and driving game earlier in the game. Was good slashing and finishing at the rim. Caused issues early as he used his height advantage and got Memorial out to an early lead. But, turnovers and more of a presence from the guards took away some of his offensive production and limited him a bit as just a secondary option. Still, that ability to play in and out of the paint, step out and shoot, as well as in transition, at 6’9 is a huge weapon at the college level.
#10 Michael Lindauer – 6’3 SF 2019 – Evansville Memorial (IN) [Committed to Cincinnati (FB)]
**15 points against Indianapolis Howe (IN)**
Lindauer is a big wing that will play college football at the DI level but is such a good athlete he makes some big time plays on the court. Really skilled with the ball in his hands and able to make plays off the bounce. Solid shooter but can play in the lane and even showed a nice floater in the lane. Would be more of a 3 for a small school basketball program.
#21 Cade Graham – 6’2 SG 2020 – Evansville Memorial (IN)
**17 points against Indianapolis Howe (IN)**
Graham had probably his best game we have seen from him. The 6’2 off guard was really solid in the half court, making plays off the bounce a bit and even the post. Had a nice right hand baby hook early in the game on a back down. He’s becoming more assertive, which is needed, as his skill has been evident for a while but production is just now stepping up. Good off guard that can play on the wing but still score in the lane a bit.
#10 Javen Layne – 6’2 SG 2019 – Evansville Bosse (IN)
**9 points against Gary West (IN)**
Layne is a big guard with some really solid athletic ability and scoring as a driver from the wing. Not a great shooter yet but could and has the mechanics close enough. Can play as a wing and really drive against smaller guards but defensively capable of playing 1-3 and tough enough to help on some four men. Did show he can make a pull-up in the mid-range in the open floor.
#52 Kiyron Powell – 6’8 C 2020 – Evansville Bosse (IN)
**8 points against Gary West (IN)**
Not the best game from Powell on the offensive end and a lot of it really wasn’t his fault as he made play after play around the rim, just nothing seemed to be falling. Bad luck on the night. However, he was showing more of a willingness to try and score, using turnaround hooks and face-up jumpers. Definitely more of a diverse offensive arsenal he hasn’t shown before. On defense, he was stellar. Blocked a ton of shots and some of them came from quite a distance away. Rebounded the ball at a high level too. He’s got the defensive side down, just put the offense there and show the full range and could be ready to take off.
#33 Matt Wagner – 6’2 SG 2022 – Evansville Bosse (IN)
**11 points against Gary West (IN)**
Wagner is a solid off guard who was really good as a perimeter shooter. Has good size and the body looks like he will grow quite a bit. Long and lanky with some solid skills. Was really solid off the catch shooting the ball and can handle it a bit. Not a guy that is going to break a player down at the moment but could as he gets older. Will need to pack on the pounds as he grows but could be an interesting player as the jumper looks like it should work for him long term.
#12 Julian Norris – 6’3 SF 2022 – Evansville Bosse (IN)
**6 points against Gary West (IN)**
Norris is a slightly built guard who is still learning a bit but showed he has some skill. Can play off the ball and will need to clean up the handles but plenty capable as a shooter on the wing and off the catch. Good size and has some length. Agile but not overly athletic. As he gains his footing, love the frame and potential growth as it looks like he could be a decent shooter in time.
#10 Emmanuel Calhoun – 6’0 PG 2019 – Gary West (IN)
**15 points against Evansville Bosse (IN)**
Calhoun is a big guard with some toughness and tons of strength. Not going to blow past you but can be really physical at the point of attack. Was good in space where he could slash and get to the rim. Gets into the lane using more savvy than speed. Good rebounder on both ends and is a guy that will spark a fast break.
#24 Jimmie Washington Jr. – 6’7 PF 2019 – Gary West (IN)
**15 points against Evansville Bosse (IN)**
Washington is an intriguing prospect. Lean forward with a good inside out game that can slash and play faced up. He’s got good size at 6’7 and a perimeter jumper that should translate to the next level. However, he was best when looking to put it on the floor and drive. So adept at slashing in and out of defenders and using his agility and athleticism to finish. Made a few really difficult plays where he had to maneuver himself around guys to score. Rebounds the ball pretty well. Only knock was wanted to see him play more above the rim, had a few chances to show out and went a little light. Still, a really interesting guy to track.
#1 Quimari Peterson – 6’0 PG 2021 – Gary West (IN)
**8 points against Evansville Bosse (IN)**
Quimari is a tough, lead guard that has a ton of toughness and leadership ability. He’s a guy that likes to attack and compete at the rim. Was really tough and seemed to shed defenders pretty well. Physically played into the ball handler on defense and drew some turnovers. Did most of his work in the lane where he can be a guy that pitches the ball off instead of taking a bad shot. Great makeup for a lead guard and one that still has room to expand as a perimeter shooter.
#23 Parion Roberson – 6’3 SF 2021 – Gary West (IN)
**9 points against Evansville Bosse (IN)**
Roberson is a big wing with some size and body built up. Moves decently well and can play in transition and at the rim. Was really effective in the transition game, playing ahead and finishing. He’s not a guy that is going to play all over the floor but has enough size and strength to be effective in the post against the right matchup. Needs some more height, a little undersized right now at 6’3 as he might be better suited, skill wise, to play a 3.
#21 Paris Roberson – 5’9 PG 2021 – Gary West (IN)
**9 points against Evansville Bosse (IN)**
Paris is a lean on-ball guard with good speed and finishing ability at the rim. Likes to take guys of the bounce with a hesitation on the perimeter, get to the rim and finish with speed. Really solid scoring ability and handles that could play him on the ball. Will need to add some strength but does well as a finesse driver. Should stay on the ball and has enough of a jumper to keep him interesting for the coming years.
#15 KyKy Tandy – 6’1 SG 2019 – University Heights (KY) [Committed to Xavier]
**44 points against Evansville Reitz (IN)**
Tandy is a really high-end scoring guard with a quick trigger, tons of athleticism, and as aggressive as you are going to find. Not overly tall but so good on the wing where he has handles that allow him to move laterally to pull-up and shoot. Can also put it on the floor to drive and did so with some authority at the rim. Good speed in the lane and a body that is physically ready to play high-major ball. Elite shooter than has a high release and a pretty quick trigger and isn’t beholden to being squared up to the rim. Hit three triples in a row at one point on three straight possessions. Could be a big time college scorer.
#4 Taquan Hollowell – 6’3 SF 2019 – University Heights (KY)
Hollowell is a big, strong wing that can play inside a bit. Really tough and showed he can get in the paint and score. He is a little undersized with height but has enough length and is so physically well built that it is tough to battle with him. He’s got solid handles but didn’t see him drive a ton from the win, more play as an interior forward that battled pretty much every ball inside. Could be a sneaky player for a college at the next level if he shows that perimeter game.
#33 K.J. Crump – 5’8 PG 2021 – University Heights (KY)
**18 points against Evansville Reitz (IN)**
Crump is a small lead guard but plays really tough and quick. Light frame but does look like he is going to fill out well, just will be a point guard with some length. Was really aggressive trying to get in the lane and make plays. Was slashing and using a burst of speed to beat his man. But, he was really solid as a rebounder and has enough athleticism to go and try and grab the ball over other guards. Good jumper as well. For a sophomore, has the makings of a really good point guard that has the offensive balance to standout and some underlying skills that could shine more as he gets older.
#11 Mar’Quan Givens – 6’0 PG 2020 – Evansville Reitz (IN)
**16 points against University Heights (KY)**
Givens is a big guard who plays well in the open floor and as a shooter on the perimeter. Not the quickest guy but was able to be effective in the lane at time, using a little lateral quickness to juke and get there than speed. When set, he’s a solid shooter from distance. Does tend to fade a bit or not be fully squared up. Will need to be more reliant as a shooter who is a possession guard. Getting better in that regard, still some room to grow.
#4 Khristian Lander – 6’2 PG 2021 – Evansville Reitz (IN)
**24 points against University Heights (KY)**
Lander looked better than we had seen in some areas. Wasn’t as good of a shooter as we have seen before, missed some as he wasn’t picking his spots as well and taking tougher shots and not squaring up as much. However, his separation ability is getting better and better. Really high-end jab step back into a jumper that is elite. Has that high-end speed in the open floor and creates really well. Showed off that athleticism as well getting up in transition. Making those strides to push his skills up a level.
#23 Drew Carlton – 6’4 SF 2021 – Evansville Reitz (IN)
**17 points against University Heights (KY)**
One of the better games we have seen from Carlton who was so good as a shooter in this one. Really good off the catch and the ball handling continues to be an asset where he will be able to create along the wing more. Looked bigger and stronger. Not sure he gets a ton taller but should be a really good wing and if the shooting ability sticks, he could be pretty high-end in that regard.
#12 Owen Dease – 6’5 SF 2021 – Evansville Reitz (IN)
**13 points against University Heights (KY)**
Dease is a big wing with handles and shooting ability. Really good as a slasher and has enough finesse to really take defenders off their game. Thought he was good in quick transition where he had a little bit of space. Made guys miss a ton. His upside is pretty high and still looks like he is going to grow and could end up as a wing with size over 6’7 and the handles and breakdown ability to create in each area of the floor. Really confident in his handle and probably the most intriguing young player we saw this day.
