Game story
Shiloh didn’t have an answer for Matt Stafford. Most Region 7 fans aren’t familiar with Stafford, a 6-1 junior. Last year he was used sparingly on the varsity stage but he’s a kid who can shoot the jump shot and drive. Stafford put up 25 points on an impressive offensive display.
Stafford was 9 of 13 from the field and 5 of 6 at the free throw line. Dickinson Trinity also got a double-double from 6-4 senior Aric Knopic. Knopic put up 10 points and 10 rebounds in the game. Dickinson Trinity didn’t have any other players in double-digits.
Shiloh big man Macauley Young only got off eight shots in the game and went to the free-throw line once, finishing with 11 points. Dickinson Trinity did a great job of keeping him off the offensive glass. Young, a 6-8 senior, is the premier big man in Western ND but he only ended the game with 5 total rebounds (2 offensive, 3 defensive).
Foul trouble kept Young out of the game. He only got 14 minutes and 13 seconds of playing time in the loss and fouled out.
Jaden Mitzel did a great job of helping the big fella with 20 points ( 9 of 16 FGs, 2 of 4 on 3s). Shiloh senior point guard Canaan Fagerland scored 12 points and was the only other Shiloh player in double digits.
Dickinson Trinity overcame a bad first half shooting performance, 6 of 21. Shiloh led at halftime 32-21 but Trinity turned it on in the second half going 12 of 20 from the field to pull out the come from behind 61-57 win.
Free throw differential was the biggest factor in the game. Shiloh only shot 7 free throw attempts and Dickinson Trinity shot 32 free throw attempts.
Lessons Learned
*Matt Stafford is a player. Dropping 25 against a power school with state championship aspirations is a big deal.
*Aric Knopic is a matchup problem because he’s athletic, tall and can run.
*Shiloh has to do a better job of getting Young good looks and shooting chances. Young also has to stay out of foul trouble.
*Mitzel is Shiloh’s best shooter.
*Shiloh is still searching for role players.
*Athletic freak and NDSU FB recruit Kaden Kuntz didn’t play.
