After a short two week break, we have decided to update the Dayton Power Rankings as several teams have shown movement needs to happen. Overall, most Divisions keep the same 5 teams however, Division II gets the award for biggest change as 3 new teams enter the rankings. Where does your team stand?
Division I
Springfield holds their #1 spot due to their victories against SW Ohio teams thus far. Two double digit losses against Upper Arlington and Pickerington Central cannot be overlooked, but clearly RaHeim Moss (2019) and his Wildcats are an elite team that has been dominant against GWOC teams. Butler is continuing to show off their dominance and will have a chance to enter the #1 spot conversation after their matchup with Sidney on Tuesday. Fairmont’s backcourt of Kellan Bochenek (2019) and Ryan Hall (2019) has been game changing and are a huge reason why the Firebirds are ranked #3. A matchup with Northmont on Tuesday will provide a test. Miamisburg dropped two spots from our preseason rankings after dropping games against Carroll and Springfield. Duncan Hall (2019) has been a name to watch thus far as he is averaging a double-double (14.0 points and 10 rebounds per game) and is giving the Vikings a great low post threat to compliment guards Brett Hensley (2019) and Corey Hartman (2019). Sidney dropped one game against Mason but has won every other game by at least 15 or more points. Andre Gordon (2019) has continued to show off his tremendous athleticism and unreal dunking ability. Ratez Roberts (2019) is one of the top defensive players in the GWOC right now. The Yellow Jackets will be tested against Butler in a huge divisional matchup that can set the tone early in the GWOC for the winner.
1. Springfield (3-2)
2. Butler (6-0)
3. Fairmont (2-1)
4. Miamisburg (5-2)
5. Sidney (4-1)
Division II
Trotwood has been rolling early on with quality wins against Centerville and Xenia. Amari Davis (2019) and Carl Blanton (2020) are both averaging 20+ points per game early on and have been a huge reason why the Rams are again the top offensive team in the area. Stebbins comes for a visit on Tuesday in what should be another dominant game. C-J has two good victories over Purcell Marian and Alter to start their 2018-19 season. A matchup at Belmont on Saturday is the only game on their schedule for this week. Milton Gage (2019) has been one of the top scorers on the year and looks to continue his dominance in the GCL. Fenwick might be one of the best defensive teams (besides Trotwood) as they’ve allowed less than 50 points in all but one game to start the season. C.J. Napier (2019) and AJ Braun (2021) have been difference makers on the defensive end on the glass and blocking shots. A home matchup with Carroll on Friday is on their schedule for the week. Graham is off to a fast start with victories over Bethel and Miami East early in the season. Although losers of their last two games, the Falcons have been a force to recon with on the offensive end averaging 65 points per game through their first seven. Brevan King (2019) is the current leading scorer in the CBC with 21 points per game. A tough road test at Urbana on Friday will give us an idea of where Graham stands in the CBC. The Spartans of Waynesville have good victories over Northridge and Oakwood early on and some tough losses against Madison and Twin Valley South. Anthony Carmichael (2019) and John Cole (2019) have stepped up on the defensive end giving the Spartans an edge in what looks to be an offense-heavy SWBL this year.
1. Trotwood-Madison (3-0)
2. Chaminade-Julienne (5-0)
3. Fenwick (4-1)
4. Graham (5-2)
5. Waynesville (4-2)
Division III
Not a ton of movement since the Preseason rankings in Division III. Stivers continues to hold the #1 spot with victories over Ponitz, Thurgood Marshall, and Legacy Christian. The backcourt of Trevon Ellis (2020) and Da’Juan Allen (2021) continues to be a problem for opposing teams and they look to continue their dominance into this week when they face the Miami Valley School. Brookville jumps one spot to #2 as they continue their dominance to start the year. Already with victories over Franklin and Graham, this Blue Devils team could potentially contend for the #1 spot over the next several weeks. The backcourt of Jake Gudorf (2019) and Wade Turner (2019) have been explosive thus far as Brookville is currently second in the SWBL in points scored, averaging 64 per game through six. Madison drops a spot due to a loss to Edgewood two weeks ago. Although the Mohawks have been without Grant Whisman (2020) or Levi McMonigle (2019) the last 3 games, juniors Matt Gomia and Tristan Sipple have stepped up and been key contributors. The Mohawks will need Whisman and McMonigle healthy for January as they prep for several big matchups. Anna has started where they left off last season with a quick 5 victories to begin the year. Friday will be a key matchup as the Rockets face off with Jackson Center in what could be an early indicator of how the SCAL will finish. Twin Valley South has been the surprise team thus far with a 4-1 start. Willie Bowman (2019) has been one of the top performers so far this season and been huge in victories over Tri-County North and Waynesville early on.
1. Stivers (5-0)
2. Brookville (6-0)
3. Madison (4-1)
4. Anna (5-0)
5. Twin Valley South (4-1)
Division IV
Fresh off a dominating victory over Celina, Marion Local will hold the #1 spot even with only one game under their belt. Nathan Bruns (2019) and company face Versailles on Friday before prepping for the Coldwater Holiday tournament. Catholic Central is yet again one of the top teams in Division IV, with victories over Kenton Ridge and Troy Christian to start the season. Sabien Doolittle (2019) continues to be one of the best performers on both ends of the floor thus far in the OHC, while backcourt mate Trey Dunn (2019) gives him the support to continue their unofficial title as top backcourt in the OHC. Jackson Center is off to a quick start with victories over Russia and Fort Loramie. A test awaits the Tigers as they face Anna at home in what should be a great game between both teams. St. John’s has wins over Minster and Elida early in the season and defensively have been one of the toughest teams in the MAC thus far. 3 straight road games await the Blue Jays as they look to continue their undefeated start and rise in the Power Rankings. Some didn’t expect to see Emmanuel Christian rise so quickly in the rankings, but victories over Cedarville and Troy Christian have given Lions fans hope this season could be a turning point. Casey Swank (2021) is having a breakout season and is one of 3 Lions in the Top 10 in scoring in the MBC. However, a January 4th matchup with Legacy Christian will tell us for sure if this Lions teams is capable of winning a conference championship this year.
1. Marion Local (1-0)
2. Springfield Catholic Central (6-0)
3. Jackson Center (5-1)
4. Delphos St. John’s (4-0)
5. Emmanuel Christian (5-0)
