Here, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at several players who raised their profile at the tournament.
Nathan Burger, 6’4, G, 2019, Blue Valley Northwest
Burger is an underrated performer who came off the bench for the Huskies to showcase his abilities as an outside shooter and all-around player. Burger brings good size, athleticism and the ability to impact a game in multiple ways. He is willing to move the ball quickly, gets into the lane off the dribble and is most effective helping space the floor with his outside shooting.
David Hornung, 6’2, G, 2019, St. James
We like what we saw from Hornung at the point as he combines good size, ball handling abilities and terrific court vision. He is a terrific passer who can create easy opportunities for his team and can make both the solid read and the flashy, spectacular pass as well. Hornung can score the ball a little when necessary, but his game mostly revolves around getting his teammates involved.
Trey Huslig, 5’11, G, 2018, Veritas Christian
Huslig is a terrific lead guard who brings both the ability to run a team, and knock down outside shots. He handles it well and can create some offense off the dribble and shows good court vision. Huslig is also a knock down shooter who is can string together 3-pointers and mid-range shots and put up a lot of points in a hurry.
Jack Hungerford, 6’0, G, 2019, Blue Valley Northwest
Hungerford is an underrated performer who brings toughness and intensity to the court. He is the guy who will take a charge, battle through a screen and come up with a key offensive rebound or steal. He’s not a big scorer, but can make an open shot or get a key basket when needed.
Eric Rhymes, 5’10, G, 2019, Shawnee Mission West
Rhymes put together a terrific performance throughout the weekend, including a strong championship game against Blue Valley Northwest. He is quick off the dribble, gets to the bucket and does a good job finishing around bigger defenders in the lane. Rhymes is a tough competitor who can lock up opposing guards and force turnovers. Rhymes is a player on the rise in the 2019 class after a strong start to the season.
