Black Hawk Invitational: Clutch scorers
Chandler High won the 2018 Black Hawk Holiday Invitational, beating Desert Ridge 68-50 in the championship round. In a big tournament such as this, big scorers are necessary for success. Here are four players that scored well and at big moments throughout the three rounds:
Adrian Chandler – Chandler:
The MVP of the tournament, Chandler shot from beyond the arc incredibly well. His threes were huge against Skyline in the semifinal, and he was a major factor in the third quarter run that put the Wolves over the top for the championship.
Carson Mittun – Seton Catholic:
The Sentinels had a tough loss in the first round, but Mittun’s scoring from all parts of the floor, especially on pull-ups, helped Seton Catholic win the consolation final. He seemed to be the most complete scorer in the tournament, and consistently made big buckets when his team needed it most.
Patrick Herrera – Skyline:
Though they got third place after losing to Chandler in a crazy semifinal, it was clear the Coyotes were the second-best team in the tournament. Herrera came into the tournament with the highest scoring average of anybody in the tournament, and did not disappoint in the three games. He shot well from all parts of the court, and made big threes when his teammates were able to drive and kick it to him.
Buck Eagleburger – Desert Ridge:
Eagleburger makes the list simply because of one play. He made a step-back three against Seton Catholic with under a minute left to win a close game in the first round. Overall, he was a pivotal scorer for the Jaguars en route to the championship round.
