The Panthers had eight turnovers in the first quarter, scoring only nine points in the first eight minutes. Bartlett head coach Dion Real changed his lineup, adding Antavion Collum, Jalen Cincore, and Sylvester Thompson to the mix, then the offense got going.
Collum finished with 10 points and three assists as the Panthers rolled past the Knights, 71-26 in the opening night of the 3rd Annual Bartlett Stagecoach Classic.
Bartlett (12-1) didn’t start to run away with Sheffield until the second quarter when Jake Manley came off the bench and knocked down back-to-back shots from 3-point range. Shooting guard Myron Fair added two 3s of his own to help the Panthers build a 27-11 lead. Fair’s two 3s were part of a 17-1 run to end the second quarter, with Bartlett going into its locker room up 34-12.
The Panthers made a total of 10 3s against Sheffield. Bartlett made five of them in the third quarter to push its lead up to 38 points (61-23).
“Jeff (Walker) didn’t get going, Sly (Thompson) didn’t get going, (Wynne Brown) Jr. didn’t get going, but you have other guys that are able to step in off the bench and keep it going for us,” Real said. “It kind of shows how deep we are.”
Forward Jaylin Lucas finished with 10 points and six rebounds for the Panthers and was named MVP of the contest. Fair added nine points, with all of his points coming from 3-point range. Point guard Jefferson Walker added seven points and two steals. Manley added six.
Shooting guard Kenny Ingram led the Knights with 12 points. He could’ve scored more if he would have made a bulk of his foul shots. Ingram went 2 for 7 from the charity stripe.
