Continue ReadingThere was a good amount of games taken place since last week’s power rankings. There were multiple tip-off events around the state that teams participated in, but the public school teams still have yet to start their season. However, they all will have played at least one official game by the end of Saturday, making the rankings easier as a whole.
So without further ado…
1. St. Frances (4-1)
Last week’s ranking: 1
Last week’s games: win vs John Carroll (89-42), win @ Archbishop Spalding (85-46), loss to Paul IV @ DeMatha (67-58)
Next three games: vs Goretti (12/5), vs Riverdale Baptist @ Gonzaga (12/7), TBA @ Gonzaga (12/8)
The Panthers took care of business in MIAA play putting away John Carroll and Spalding handily. In a huge match up against nationally-ranked Paul IV, they came up short despite a monster performance from Jamal West (16 points, 14 rebounds, 3 blocks). PVI was without their star point guard Jeremy Roach, who tore his ACL earlier in the week. Their other go-to option Anthony Harris went down with what has been officially diagnosed as a torn ACL. St. Frances looks to get back to their winning ways with a tough game against a good Goretti team this Wednesday.
2. Mount Saint Joseph (4-1)
Last week’s ranking: 2
Last week’s games: win vs Archbishop Spalding (72-52), loss vs Gonzaga @ DeMatha (76-36), win vs Gerstell (81-50)
Next three games: vs Gilman (12/5), vs Calvert Hall (12/7), @ Loyola (12/10)
After beating Spalding by 20, the Gaels came out flat against a determined Gonzaga team who lost their opener the night before at Bishop McNamara. Last night, Bishop ignited in the second half for 27 points as he helped lead the Gaels to a 31-point win against Gerstell. This week will be extremely important for them in terms of their ranking.
3. Poly (0-0)
Last week’s ranking: 3
Next three games: @ Digital Harbor (12/5), vs Wilson in Baltimore/DC Challenge (12/8), vs Ben Franklin (12/8)
4. Patterson (0-0)
Last week’s ranking: 4
Next three games: vs Wilde Lake (12/5), vs Curley (12/8), vs Aberdeen (12/10)
5. Boys’ Latin (5-1)
Last week’s ranking: 6
Last week’s games: win @ Friends (81-56), win vs Malvern Prep @ Kiski School (78-63), win vs International Sports Academy @ Kiski School (60-52), win vs Henry Carr @ Kiski School (67-60)
Next three games: @ Mt. Carmel (12/5), @ McDonogh (12/7), @ Archbishop Spalding (12/12)
Since losing their home opener to Goretti, the Lakers have been rolling on all cylinders on their way to five-straight wins. Cam Spencer has been on a tear averaging 22 points per game so far this season, while others such as Jake Nichols, Cam Watts and Sam Grace have all had big performances of their own. They’ll be the favorite in their next three match ups, but the game against McDonogh could be a tough one to pull out. We’ll be there to cover that game as they look to extend their hot streak.
6. Dulaney (0-0)
Last week’s ranking: 5
Next three games: vs Curley @ Johns Hopkins (12/7), vs Catonsville (12/12), @ Towson (12/19)
7. McDonogh (3-0)
Last week’s ranking: 7
Last week’s games: win vs Gerstell (47-46)
Next three games: @ John Carroll (12/5), vs Boys’ Latin (12/7), vs Mt. Carmel (12/10)
The Eagles stay put at seven despite barely coming out with a win at Gerstell. They were down two players in Dani Dennis-Sutton and Preston Howard, both of which could have helped the score look more convincing. This young team is still very much in the growing stages of their season. They’ll face their first big test when Boys’ Latin comes to campus this Friday.
8. Annapolis Area Christian (3-1)
Last week’s ranking: 9
Last week’s games: loss @ Pallotti (69-66), win vs Grace Christian (85-59), win vs Severn (65-61)
Next three games: @ Archbishop Spalding (12/5), @ Mt. Carmel (12/7), @ Loyola (12/12)
The senior heavy Eagles won the games they were supposed to to improve their record to 3-1. They were down by more than 15 to Pallotti, but battled back and lost by 3 in a game where they were in position to win. A game to circle is their match up against Loyola, which is a game that we will be covering.
9. Loyola (4-3)
Last week’s ranking: 8
Last week’s games: loss vs Goretti (64-56), win vs Mt. Carmel (61-47), loss vs Bishop Ireton @ DeMatha (61-59)
Next three games: @ Gilman (12/7), vs Mt. St. Joe (12/10), vs Annapolis Area Christian (12/12)
The Dons had a couple of losses last week, but they took care of business where they needed to. In the losses, they were competitive and still showed some upside. Especially in the game against a talented Bishop Ireton team that had to rely on a buzzer beating shot to escape with the win. They have a challenging week ahead, but it’ll help us get a better feel for where this team really belongs.
10. New Town (0-0)
Last week’s ranking: 10
Next three games: vs Southern (11/29), @ Catonsville (12/5), @ Roland Park (12/7)
Honorable Mention: Glenelg Country (3-0) Gilman (1-2), City (0-0), Milford Mill (0-0), Archbishop Spalding (1-2),
