One of their best ones is always the ASSIST Tip Off Classic held at Meadowbrook for as long as I’ve been doing this. It featured five good games and numerous next level prospects for all levels. We’ll take a look at some of the senior standouts here.
Lawson Quinn | 6’8” PF | CVHAA 2019
One of the best available bigs in the area, Quinn showed the entire package and was a big reason the Patriots were able to battle with the Bruins to the wire. At 6’8 he’s a good athlete that can run the floor and finish above the rim, and he showed the ability to make the midrange jumper off the catch and off one or two dribbles. He battles in the paint and rebounds well on both ends of the floor as well.
Kris Norman | 5’9” G | Great Bridge Christian 2019
Norman has been putting up buckets in the 757 for years now, and now that he’s on GBC with these division one prospects he’s starting to get noticed. Let’s put it this way, Norman would be a terrific division two or division three guard because despite his size, he can make shots from all over the floor. He isn’t the quickest or most athletic, but he has deep range, good footwork and is a consistent shot maker. He finished with a game high 23 points, hitting three from behind the arc.
DeAndre Wilkins | 6’10” C | Great Bridge Christian 2019
The Wagner commit has showed plenty of promise since transferring to Great Bridge Christian, including dropping 20 pounds since school started. The lefty big man is a load in the paint, and he has soft touch around the rim and always seems to be around the basketball. He finished with 10 points and seven rebounds on the game.
Jairus Ashlock | 6’1” WG | John Marshall 2019
Ashlock is likely looking at a prep season, and coaches need to start getting on him now because the kid can flat out play. At 6’1” with a strong frame, he’s a bucket getter that can play on and off the ball and rebounds well for his size and position as well. He uses his size off the bounce to get in the lane and get to the free throw line, where he’s very good as well. The three level scorer finished with a game high 21 points and eight rebounds.
DeMarr McRae | 6’1” WG | John Marshall 2019
McRae continues to show why he may be the best available two guard at the division one level left in public school basketball in Virginia. While he’s only 6’1”, McRae has great bounce and he uses it on both ends of the floor to rebound the basketball and make plays at the rim. He’s a relentless defender and rebounder and has that “dog” about him that you love. He made a couple of highlight worthy plays above the rim, and he continues his impressive start to the season with a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Levar Allen | 6’0” PG | John Marshall 2019
With such a talented group of scorers on the Justices team, it surprises no one that Allen has been very impressive getting others involved and leading the team so far this season. With his big frame at the point guard position, he still has a quick first step and once he gets in the lane he can dictate where he goes with his size. He finished with 10 points and six assists, finding cutters and shooters all game long.
