Jordan Brinson (Westchester)
2019, CG, 6-foot-3, 170 pounds
Joel’s take: One of the better unsigned guards in So-Cal is Brinson. The ultra-athletic combo-guard can play both guard positions due to his explosiveness to the rim and vision. His skip passes to open shooters are on the money and he has the ability to knock in the deep jump shot.
Adrian McIntyre (Saugus)
2020, SG, 6-foot-3, 170 pounds
Joel’s take: McIntyre is all about moxie. He isn’t overly quick or fast, but he changes speeds well and has a knack to score from all three levels. Solid range from deep, dribble drive kick-outs, and a solid pull-up game describe this blue-collar guard.
Kevin Bethel (Westchester)
2019, 6-foot-1, 160 pounds
Joel’s take: Bethel is one of those guards that fits the “under-rated” label. The Comets have had a plethora of guards come through the ranks and Bethel is yet another one. He can play both guard positions due to his innate passing abilty and strength to score through contact. Look for him to get some offers during the season.
DeShawn Johnson (Washington)
2020, PF, 6-foot-6, 210 pounds
Joel’s take: The catalyst to Washington’s win over Santa Monica was Mr. Johnson. The high-motor 4-man has good hands, bounce, and a nose for the ball. He is a solid rim protector (quick jumper) and he’ll sprint the floor for the finish.
Quincy McGriff (Santa Monica)
2020, SG, 6-foot-5, 200 pounds
Joel’s Take: McGriff had a stellar off season and he has continued to get bigger and stronger. The burly wing-type can score from all three levels due to his scoring mentality. He has the strength to finish through contact and the soft touch to convert from deep. To take his game to another level will be to improve his consistency in the areas of rebounding and facilitating.
Nathan Perez (Saugus)
2022, SG, 6-foot-2, 165 pounds
Joel’s Take: Freshman making an instant impact on the varsity level has become the norm nowadays and Perez is no exception. The rangy scoring guard moves well without the ball has a textbook jump shot. He can come off a pin down and elevate for the shot is a thing of beauty and his pull-up game is nice as well.
Kaelen Allen (Westchester)
2019, PF, 6-foot-6, 225 pounds
Joel’s Take: Allen was granted a 5th year and he could be the catalyst to lift the Comets to another LA City Championship. He has a Barkley-esque frame with long arms and he has terrific feet. He manuevers around defenders with ease and has magnetic hands. His motor fluctuates now and again, but he can play somewhere on the D1 level.
