This will be a post that happens every Monday this season to tune you into the things you need to keep an eye out for. These are the things you should keep an eye on for the week of December 3rd – December 8th.
3 Teams
Indianapolis Cathedral
After a tough loss to Center Grove this past weekend, Cathedral’s schedule doesn’t get any easier. They now have to play Warren Central on Friday and Zionsville on Saturday. These are not going to be easy games by any stretch of the imagination. Cathedral could easily find itself with two wins this weekend, but also could saddle themselves with two losses. This is a big weekend for Cathedral to show what they really have.
Heritage Christian
Now we think that Heritage Christian is good this year, but they are coming off of a 15 point loss to Ritter and stand at 5-1. The teams that they have played haven’t been all that strong but this week we will really be able to see what they are made of. On Tuesday they play Park Tudor, a team that is sitting at 3-0 with a few solid wins. Chatard hosts Heritage Christian on Friday and that is always a tough game. This is the week to see if Heritage Christian is for real.
Culver Academy
Culver easily won the 3A state championship last year and look like the favorite to repeat this year. They have a tough week ahead as they face off with Brebeuf on Friday and then HSE on Saturday. Culver hosts both of these games so they will be a little more comfortable. The game with HSE is huge because it will show us just how good Culver can be this year. Brebeuf is no slouch this year either and going 2-0 this weekend would be huge.
3 Games
Barr-Reeve vs. Linton-Stockton
This Friday night matchup may be one of the best in the state as two state title contenders see each other. Barr-Reeve is the large favorite to come out of the South in 1A this year and Linton-Stockton is looking better every game. Linton has one blemish on their schedule, a loss to 4A Bedford North Lawrence but other than that, these two teams have been playing really well. This is going to be a really good measuring stick matchup for two small basketball powers.
Lawrence Central vs. Lawrence North
These teams usually have a lot of talent, but this year these two teams, talent wise, might be the two most talented teams in the state. Both schools are littered with D1 talent, but so far they have not performed up to the expectations that they have. Lawrence Central is coming off of a disheartening loss to Carmel and Lawrence North fell in their first game to Floyd Central. This is always a very competitive game and there will be no difference this year. A must see battle in Indianapolis on Wednesday.
Floyd Central vs. New Albany
Floyd Central has gotten off to a good start this year with wins against Castle and Lawrence North among others to start the season 4-0. New Albany has beaten Bloomington South and Evansville Harrison, but it is to be seen how good they really are. They have some pieces but they should obviously be in a down year after having Romeo Langford for the last four years. This is going to be a Friday night game that is really competitive and I think will tell us more about New Albany and their team rather than Floyd Central.
3 Players
Kayden Key
Frankton has struggled a little bit this year and with a game against Eastbrook on Friday and against Southport on Saturday, it’s not looking too great to get back to a winning record. Key is going to have to be really good in the game against Southport if they are going to win. Key is their reliable scorer and Southport is really going to pressure the guards. Look for Key to have a big week, and if he doesn’t Frankton might be in a bit of trouble.
John Michael-Mulloy
Carmel has two games this weekend, one against Noblesville and the other against Jeffersonville. Michael-Mulloy is set up to have a big week against these two teams. He should be able to have his way against Noblesville and will be paramount in the game against Jeffersonville. The key for him is to stay out of foul trouble against Jeffersonville because they are going to attack him and try to get him out of the game. It should be a really good weekend for Michael-Mulloy given he can stay on the floor.
Carson Barrett
He is a triple double machine and Barrett with need to do that once again this weekend. A tough matchup with Northwestern comes on Saturday following a game with a young and inexperienced Clinton Prairie team. Northwestern will seek revenge after a tough loss last year on LCC’s home floor. It is never easy to play at Northwestern and this game will be no different. Barrett is going to need to excel if LCC hopes to knock off Northwestern.
