This week we go baseline to baseline with one of the top prospects in the state of Texas. He hales from the DFW Metroplex and is a Class of 2020 prospect. We also break down his strengths and weakness, as well as the outlook of his future. Let me introduce to you Mike Miles of Lancaster High School within Lancaster, TX UIL 5A.
Mike is a strong physical guard that stands at 6’2. Has good tempo control and offensive acceleration. He knows when to speed you up and slow you down. Has great awareness once he gets past the second level. Finishes well at the rim regardless the size of the defender. He continues to improve his lateral quickness defensively. Has some athletic abilities which gives him an edge defensively. He is good at creating for his teammates, and takes care of the ball. He allows the game to come to him instead of trying to force it.
Mike has been starting varsity since his freshman year in high school. His numbers and overall play continues to rise year after year. His freshman year the Tigers went 18-13 overall and lost in the quarterfinals of the playoffs. His Sophomore season they went 16-12 and Lost in the Regional Finals (Elite 8) of the Playoffs. This year they are 8-1 so far and open up District play on December 18, 2018 against West Mesquite. He is averaging 19 points per game this season so far. Bringing in 5 rebounds per game, and dishing out 4 assist per game.
Mike you just got done playing in the title game of the CyHoops Invitational and was crowned MVP how are you feeling? I’m feeling good man, its was a great event and my teammates came out to play. I couldn’t have done it without them. Talk a little bit on how your season is going right now? So far we’ve been good. Our only loss is to Guyer, but they ran off on us in the 4th quarter but we’ve grown since then and that was early in the season. So it’s been good so far for us. Can you talk a little bit about the adversity of the game against South garland as you guys were down 30 points? We knew that we had the potential to win. They were making all of there shots in the first quarter, but after that we just took a deep breath and do what we do. How is recruitment looking for you right now? Recruitment is good, I have some offers and some interest and schools keep coming to look at me so i’m blessed. No one knows your game as good as you do. So what area have you improved the most in your game from last season to this season? My physicality has improved the most for me. Finishing around the rim. I put some weight on busted my butt in the weight room and got stronger.
Mike has offers from Louisiana State University, Old Dominion, University of Houston, Texas Christian University, and Oklahoma State University. We at Prep Hoops Texas would like to wish Mike a great season full of health.
