Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several players who stood out at Saturday’s event.
Luke Adams, 6’0, G, 2021, Blue Valley North
Adams quietly put together a good game for BVN, playing a smart-heady floor game, letting the game come to him and knocking down open 3-pointers. He runs the point for Blue Valley North and plays a smart floor game, limiting turnovers and mistakes. On offense, he has a quick shooting release from behind the 3-point arc and has good range. He knocked down three 3-pointers, including two early in the third quarter, but picked up a technical in the third quarter and sat much of the second half.
Nyk Bryant, 6’0, G, 2021, Park Hill
One of the more underrated players in the rising sophomore class in Kansas City, Bryant brings energy, athleticism and defensive intensity to the court. He is tough in transition, does a terrific job pressuring the ball and getting in the passing lanes and is quick to the basket. He went for 11 points in the first half, including nine in the second quarter, and after a scoreless third quarter, came up big in the fourth quarter, forcing turnovers and scoring in transition.
Taj Manning, 6’6, F, 2022, Grandview
Manning brings size, length and athleticism to the floor and some skill to the floor for a youngster. He is still finding his way at the varsity level, but he shows flashes of brilliance. Manning is mostly content to let the game come to him and doesn’t try to do too much and appears content to play his role. He entered Saturday’s action averaging nearly eight points per game.
Aidan Shaw, G/F, 2022, Blue Valley
Showed some length and size and brought a big motor to the floor as he was one of the most active players we saw at Avila. Shaw is a hard worker who battles in the paint, but also showed some skill, putting the ball on the floor and knocking down a mid-range shot and showing a smooth 3-point stroke on kick out passes.
Tank Young, 5’9, G, 2021, St. Thomas Aquinas
Young puts the Tank is Tank Young as he is a force driving the ball to the basket. When he puts his head down and drives to the basket Young can be nearly impossible to stop. He is strong, physical and quick and makes life difficult for opponents as they attempt to keep him from getting all the way to the basket. Young is a tough defender as well who uses his size, athleticism and quickness to disrupt opposing ball handlers.
