Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several youngsters who raised their profile at the event.
Tyrese Cannon, 6’2, G/F, 2022, KC Schlagle
Cannon knocked down a 3 and showed an all-around floor game and good potential for a youngster against Lee’s Summit West. He has good size and can handle the ball, shoot from the outside and brings good length to the defensive end of the floor. He’s a player to watch in the freshman class going forward.
Miles Cole, 6’6, PF/C, 2022, Shawnee Mission North
Cole isn’t getting a lot of varsity run just yet, but did get some key minutes on Saturday and showed good size, the ability to run the floor and a willingness to mix it up against a strong and athletic Liberty front line. He has good size at 6’6 and a developing skill set, able to score around the basket, step out and shoot from 15 feet and has an emerging post-up game.
Mozae Downing, 6’3, G, 2022, Lawrence Free State
Downing impressed with his size, length, ball handling and all-around skill set for a young guard. He played the game under control, often differed to his older teammates and moved the ball. He has the potential to be an excellent defender who can guard multiple positions and is quick off the dribble with a strong first step.
Michael Harris, 6’1, F, 2021, Shawnee Mission North
Harris brings a unique skill set to the floor, capable of playing much bigger than his listed 6’1 height. He is a strong forward who gets on the boards, scores around the basket and has a knack for scoring over and around bigger players in the paint. He came off the bench for Shawnee Mission North and had a solid performance for the Indians in a loss to Liberty.
Zeke Mayo, 6’2, G, 2021, Lawrence
Easily the best young player (freshman/sophomore) on the Kansas side at 810Varsity, Mayo is a player we have written a lot about recently. He has terrific size and length and all-around skill set, able to score at all three levels, can get to the basket and finish with an array of runners and floaters.
