Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several big men who raised their profile at the event.
Kamto Eze, 6’6, F, 2019, Grandview
Eze has long been known for his ability to play around the basket, protect the rim, run the floor and finish with emphatic dunks. But he showed he is capable of more on Saturday as he threw down three dunks and scored 12 first-half points against the Huskies.
Michael Peake, 6’7, F, 2020, Blue Valley Northwest
Peake was quiet for much of the contest until the final moments of the third quarter when his play helped spark a BVNW rally late in the frame. He met a Grandview player at the rim and came up with a huge block, ran the floor and scored in the paint at the other end, then came back and hit a big 3-pointer to help cut the Grandview lead to 43-41 at the end of the frame. Peake has good size, a well-rounded skill set and the ability to play above the rim at both ends of the floor.
Siler Tschirhart, 6’8, PF/C, 2019, Blue Valley
Tschirhart is one of the KC area’s premier interior player with a strong, physical frame and an old school game. He likes to mix it up in the post, can score with his back to the basket and is capable of pinning his man deep under the basket as he works for position. Also a football standout, Tschirhart has committed to play at South Dakota.
Ethan Vlasic, 6’8, PF, 2019, Blue Valley North
Vlasic is among the state’s most improved players in the 2019 class entering the season as he is coming off a strong offseason with the KC Spurs. He runs the floor like a deer, has long arms and a wide wing span and has improved his strength with the ball.
Jermaine Yarbrough, 6’6, F, 2019, Grandview
Yarbrough has a lot of tools, armed with terrific size and athleticism and some intriguing skills. He can post up and hit a turnaround jumper, can finish in the paint and can even step out and hit a 3. On Saturday he also impressed with his defensive abilities as he spent much of the contest defending BVNW guard Christian Braun.
Nic Ziel, 6’6, F, 2019, Park Hill
The Truman State recruit showed off an all-around game on Saturday, scoring on the block and showing off his shooting touch. He was perfect at the free throw line, added a pair of 3-pointers, and finished with 20 points and nine rebounds. He is a strong, physical post player who works hard for position in the paint and is a tough match-up for most teams, but also shows a soft shooting touch.
