Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several players who stood out at Saturday’s event.
Tavian Josenberger, 5’10, G, 2020, Park Hill
Josenburger had 14 points in the contest including scored three clutch baskets in the final minute of play. He drove the lane and scored a clutch basket that gave the Trojans a four point lead, then came right back with a steal and a breakaway lay-up for a 65-59 lead with 52 seconds remaining. He’s not a flashy guard, but is steady at the point, doesn’t make mistakes and helps his team get into its offense. He finished with 14 points, including the final eight points of the game for Park Hill.
Reggie Morris, 6’2, G, 2020, Grandview
Morris continues to impress with his outside shooting touch, basketball IQ and defensive intensity. He is mostly known for his ability to string together 3-pointers and he and Deandre Sorrells form one of the state’s best 1-2 shooting punches. However, Morris brings much more to the table as he brings an all-around floor game to the table, capable of moving without the ball, handling pressure and leadership.
Zarian Navy, 6’4, G, 2020, St. Thomas Aquinas
One of the KC area’s most underrated wing players, Navy brings a terrific combination of size, athleticism and toughness. He is a good defender on the perimeter whose length causes problems as he gets in the passing lanes and disrupts things, and at the offensive end, Navy is a good ball handler who can create some offense off the dribble, and has the ability to get down hill towards the basket and finish.
Jack Sheplak, 6’3, G, 2020, Blue Valley North
Sheplak entered Saturday’s game averaging 15 points per game this season and showed why against Park Hill. He has terrific size at 6’3 and can do a little bit of everything well. He handles it, can shoot from the outside and moves exceptionally well without the basketball. He has the ability to score a lot of easy baskets due to his movement and basketball IQ. He finished with 20 points, including nine in the fourth quarter.
Brock West, 6’3, F, 2020, Maranatha
West had one of the better individual performances for Maranatha in a loss against Hogan Prep in the opening game of the day. He went for 19 points and 13 rebounds
