Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several players who stood out at Saturday’s event.
Christian Braun, 6’7, G, 2019, Blue Valley Northwest
Braun is backing up that Kansas commitment this season in a big way as he has put together a monster start to his senior season. He went for 29 on Friday against rival Blue Valley North in a hard fought win, then added 28 on Saturday against Grandview. He carried BVNW in the early going, scoring all but two of his teams points in the first quarter, then scoring seven of 11 in the second quarter. He is a must-see player, capable of doing a little bit of everything, whether it’s handling the ball, seeing the floor, shooting the 3 or throwing down a dunk.
Cameron Green, 6’1, G, 2019, Blue Valley
Green continues to impress us this season with his toughness, leadership and steady hand at the point. He isn’t a flashy player or someone who is going to light up the scoreboard, but Green brings a defensive tenacity and intensity that is contagious. At the offensive end, he can make an open 3 and is strong driving to the basket.
Jax Holland, 6’2, G, 2019, Maranatha
Holland probably didn’t have his best game at the offensive end of the court as he finished with 11 points on 5 for 16 shooting, but he continues to showcase a lot of tools. He has good size for a guard, is a good athlete with the ability to make things happen. He can handle the ball, is a creative passer and can knock down 3-pointers off the catch or the dribble.
Amari Pesek-Hickson, 6’2, G, 2019, Blue Valley North
Pesek-Hickson is a player, capable of defending, handling the ball, setting up teammates and scoring the ball. He has committed to play football at Michigan or he would likely be on college basketball team’s radars. He didn’t have a big game scoring the ball on Saturday, but his court vision, passing and play making stood out as he created plays for his team.
Joe Rost, 6’6, F, 2019, St. Thomas Aquinas
Rost has really taken his game to a new level as a senior. A key part of the varsity since his sophomore year, Rost is a 6’6 wing player with long arms and a long, rangy build. While he has a smooth outside shooting release that he became known for as a youngster, he has expanded his game and operated a lot out of the post on Saturday. He uses his size to shoot over defenders and has a feel for finding open seams in the paint for easy baskets. Also a baseball standout, Rost is among the better inside-out players in the KC area this season.
