Continue ReadingMost teams have played one or two games in 6A which makes it difficult to gauge but we have a good idea of who the teams are that will make a deep run and who will likely fizzle out. We will list a every team in 6A that we think are contenders.
Region 1
Davis– The Darts are major contenders with a schedule that is intense. Tyson Garff at 6’6 can play, but he isn’t alone as he has Jake Sampson who has been lights out this year as well.
Weber– Weber might take a 6-0 record into American Fork but we think reality will set in for a team that has a soft schedule to start the season with.
Layton– The Lancers always find ways to compete. Don’t let a possible 6 loses before region fool you to think that they will not compete in Region 1.
Region 2
Kearns– Dan Cosby always has a team reay to go toe to toe with anyone. This year it is no different as Emmanuel Andrew will lead the Cougars this year. He recently signed with New Mexico. Kearns also has Majok Kuath and Cole Lake. Kearns could be one of those dangerous teams in 6A.
Region 3
Copper Hills– Copper Hills is a very good team with Division 1 talent in Trevon Allfrey and Stone Hutchings. We look forward to tracking their play as they will represent Utah at the Kruel Classic. This team is a Final Four caliber team.
Herriman– The Mustangs have all the pieces to contend with PG Jael Vaughn, SG LeGrand Burgess, SF Kase Peterson and company. They have size and athleticism.
Region 4
Pleasant Grove– The # 1 team in the state for a reason and that reason is 7’4 Matt Van Komen and Casey Brown. These two players require so much attention tat it opens things up for other players. If their role players can be productive it might be difficult to knock them off.
American Fork– AF has the makings of a team that could be the other team nobody wants to play. Isaac Johnson, Trey Stewart, Hayden Franson, Tanner Cuff alone will all play college basketball. If the gel and peak at the right time they could possibly be the team to beat.
Lone Peak– The Knights 1st two games were baffling but they have rattled off 2 in a row. It’s hard to count out Lone Peak because of who they have been. Noah Smithson is currently averaging 20 points a game, he is a player to keep an eye on.
When it’s all said and done we will likely get a preview of the two top teams in Region action. I wouldn’t bet against Copper Hills or Davis either.
Good luck to everyone and if you weren’t a contender this time around, prove us wrong.
