He opened with a 31-point performance on Saturday at the 810Varsity Tip Off Classic in a runaway win over Blue Springs at Liberty High School.
At 6’5, Butler is a strong, athletic player who can play above the rim, handle the ball and throw down monster slams.
“I feel like I play like Jaylen Brown — aggressive and downhill, trying to dunk on people,” he said.
After a strong summer competing for KC Run GMC, Butler has drawn the eye of college coaches. He says the experience of playing on the Under Armour shoe circuit has helped prepare him for the upcoming season and beyond.
He is currently hearing from Nebraska Omaha, Nebraska and Central Arkansas
“LJ Goolsby (KC Run GMC coach) pushed me to get downhill and go dunk on people and just be a leader,” Butler said. “My uncle and my AAU coach LJ, they have always pushed me to get better and take my game to the next level.”
Butler says he spent the summer fine tuning his 3-point shot, a skill that has improved as he enters his senior season and will open up other aspects of his game.
Butler says he enjoys watching both college basketball and the NBA and is a fan of Zion Williamson and the Celtics’ Jaylen Brown.
