Prep Hoops made some changes and decided to take in a school we hadn’t seen yet this season in the North Myrtle Beach HS Chiefs. The Chiefs made the trip down to Socastee on Highway 707 to play the Braves. The Braves battled to a 33-32 halftime lead before pulling away to win 67-52 at the Brave Wave,
MVP : Jonathan Wright (2019) – Socastee HS (pictured on front)
Wright was literally Johnny on the spot this evening for the Braves. connecting on 4 three pointers to score 18 points. Wright a undersized shooting guard has a sweet stroke and plays with some grittiness and toughness on the floor.
New Coach in North Myrtle Beach : Darcie Vincent – North Myrtle Beach HS
North Myrtle Beach HS Head Coach Darcie Vincent is the boys varsity basketball coach of the Chiefs. Vincent has her team at (2-5) on the young season with victories over Loris HS and West Brunswick HS.
New Surroundings : Jevon Griffin (2019) and Alvin Green
Griffin finished (2-0) this season against his former teammates after last nights win. Griffin a left-handed guard scored just 3 points in the victory. Current Socastee Assistant Alvin Green coached at North Myrtle Beach HS the past few years where he compiled a (16-23) record before heading back home to the Braves. Green was a outstanding player for the Braves and was named Mr. Basketball for the Palmetto State back in 2000. Green played college ball at Coastal Carolina University.
New name for the database : Javi Marlowe (2020) – North Myrtle Beach HS
Marlowe 6’0 point guard finished with 15 points in the loss for the Chiefs. Marlowe the primary ball-handler had a few nice mid-range pull-up jumpers. Marlowe will be a name to track in the years to come out of the North Myrtle Beach area.
Recruitable Seniors : Kassius “Jay” Williams, Marcus Moore,Tyron Stockdale and Cason McClendon
This trio of players should all be recruited to play somewhere in college next fall. Williams a left-handed point guard finished with 16 points for the Braves. Williams really likes to play with some confidence and swagger.
Moore 6’8 post player is a RAW talent who tends to really get into foul trouble a lot. Moore played just 6:50 tonight before fouling out. Moore tries to block everything and constantly leaves his feet. Moore finished with 6 points and 4 rebounds before departing with 41.1 seconds left in the 3rd quarter.
Stockdale missed out on the football season for a discipline reason and is now back on the hardwood for the Chiefs. Stockdale dropped 27 points vs West Brunswick HS (NC) on Saturday night and finished with 7 points tonight. Stockdale has good body control on the floor and generally plays off the ball. Stockdale will need to entertain junior college options if it’s for football or basketball next season.
McClendon 6’5 is just getting back to the team after finishing up his high school football career for the Chiefs. McClendon a Quarterback on the football field started 29 games for the Chiefs over the past 3 years and threw for 4,464 yards with 52 touchdowns in the time span.
